Chapter Fourteen :d
Some Shopping and Old Friends
I stared out into the city landscape, feeling free again. I hadn’t really been able to go out anywhere for awhile in fear that Pete’s… or should I say Patrick’s clan might find me and kidnap me. I looked around the scenery, smiling calmly. I felt at ease. Frankie gripped my hand, pointing to a building across the street. It was beautiful. A long sky scraper with a glass dome at the top and many windows. It looked slightly familiar, but I wasn’t sure why it did. Frankie suddenly spoke up.
“That’s where you’ve been living for the last few weeks.” He stated. I stared at it, shocked. That glass dome.. That was the one that Ryan kept breaking… well everyone kept breaking… I laughed calmly, staring at it as memories flooded back into my head. I quickly shook my head, beginning to miss my home away from home. I turned to the little shop on the other side of me, staring at some of the articles of clothing. Mikey surveyed me, then pointed to the store.
“Okay, time to check out clothes!” He declared. Frankie moaned as I laughed. It had been the sixth shop since we had started. We entered the small shop, glancing at all of the clothes. Frankie rolled his eyes as he glanced at each item.
“None of these are you. You’ve never dressed like this.” He stated. I glanced at him, raising an eyebrow.
“Frankie, two things. One is that its not what the item is its how you wear it and two is that I’m slightly concerned as to how you know how I dress.” I teased. Frankie shrugged.
“I went to your school last year.” He said as if it were obvious. I nodded.
“Oh, okay that makes sense.” I said calmly, thumbing through the items again. I felt a sudden pair of arms around my waist, then something picking me up and running away. Frankie and Mikey leapt up, running after me. I tried to scream, but there was a hand over my mouth preventing me from doing anything. What the hell was going on?
“Stop!” I cried through the hand. Unfortunately it didn’t work. The words were too muffled. My captor or captors turned down an alley way suddenly. I felt a strange sense of glee knowing that they had made the wrong decision. Soon, the two boys who had been trying to rescue me had turned into their wolf form. I heard a noise as three wolves suddenly leapt out in front of me along with two vampires. I stared at the group curiously, still being held by someone. The two vampires looked oddly familiar. I pulled the hand away from my mouth.
“Karin? Cassie?” I asked. The two turned around, nodding.
“Yeah. We’re here for you Tay. Don’t worry” Cassie said calmly. Frankie suddenly transformed back, pissed.
“Don’t worry? You’re kidnapping her!” He snarled. Suddenly one of the wolves transformed, revealing herself as one of my friends, Katie. She snarled at him.
“Uh, excuse me? You’re the ones who kidnapped her in the first place. We’re just bringing her home!” She barked. Mikey suddenly transformed back into his human form, equally annoyed.
“No, we didn’t kidnap her. We’re babysitting her and hiding her from another clan.” He snarled. Another wolf transformed into my friend Cody. He glared at Mikey and Frankie.
“Yeah, right. You’re just some fucked up creepers. Come on Tay. Lets go” He muttered. The last wolf left just stared at me with his bright blue eyes, wagging his tail. Another figure suddenly entered the alleyway. This time it was Gerard. He sighed.
“God, what have you gotten yourselves into now?” He snarled. He grabbed Cody’s shoulder.
“Hey. You. She’s ours.” He growled. Cody glared at him.
“We had her first. She’s ours.” He snarled. I walked over to the other wolf as the fight broke loose, scratching him behind the ears.
“You’re saul, aren’t you?” I asked. Saul suddenly transformed back into a human, smirking.
“Yep!” He chirped. I quickly retracted my hands.
“Cause that’s not creepy at all!” I snarled. Saul laughed, then held out his arms. I sighed, accepting the hug and letting him win this time. Saul grinned happily, his dog-like fangs showing.
“They don’t get it do they?” He asked. I cocked my head to one side.
“Get what?” I asked. Saul laughed to himself.
“Well, Frankie, Mikey and Gerard were protecting you, clearly. And we went out to save you, but you were already okay. So now they’re going to figure that out but at the moment they have no clue as to what was going on” He explained. I laughed, nodding. The group of arguing men and women stared at us, then at each other obviously hearing what Saul had said.
“You mean you were-” Katie started.
“And you were-” Mikey interrupted
“But we-” Cody said quickly.
“And we-” Frankie added. Soon the group broke into laughter.
“Oh, I get it. Okay. Wow.” Gerard said calmly. The group exchanged glances as they realized what was going on. As the group was talking, I felt someone take my hand.
“Shhh… come on.” The voice muttered. I turned around but only saw the hand sticking out from the wall. I looked around quietly, then stared back at the wall while everyone was distracted.
“Why should I?” I snarled. The voice laughed.
“Because. If you don’t, Patrick’s clan is going to kidnap you. I’m here by orders of your boyfriend to stop it.” The voice stated. I recognized it as a man’s. I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah, like they’d attack when I- Hey!” I yelped as I was suddenly pulled through the wall as if I were merely a ghost. The man covered my mouth, dragging me backwards. I began kicking, not sure what was going on. I felt myself being dragged into a car, then I felt the revving of the engine, then there was a moment of peace. I sighed, looking at the figure who sat beside me. He smirked, flicking his dark black and blue hair as his eyes turned back from their previous white to a normal blue colour.
“Evening. You’re vampy boy friends sent me after you.” He stated. I raised an eyebrow.
“But I’m supposed to stay with Gerard’s pack for awhile to keep myself hidden from Patrick.” I stated. A voice came from the front of the car.
“Yeah, but did they tell you that they took you without permission?” The voice asked. The man next to me laughed as my expression turned to shock.
“Oh, don’t worry. That’s Ryan.” He stated. I cocked my head to one side.
“Ryan?” I asked. The man in the front seat spoke up.
“No, not your Ryan. I’m a different Ryan. I’m more of a, well, what Josh is too.” He stated. I looked over at the other guy who simply waved.
“Hey! My name is Josh Ramsay. I like long walks on the beach and occasionally enjoy a good hot chocolate. I am a vampiric mercenary.” He said calmly, then poked the driver, “This is Ryan Reynolds. He’s a werewolf, and a mercenary as well. We kind of work together. We lost the rest of our packs and clans so this is pretty much the only way we can survive now a days.”
Ryan glared back at Josh for a split second after he poked him, then turned back to driving.
“I swear, if you poke me again your finger is going to go up your ass.” He snarled. Josh burst out into laughter. I just eyed the two, questioning whether Ryan had been joking or serious. Josh sighed, leaning back into the seat as he began to play with some random pistol.
“Yeah. Well, I have the gun.” Josh taunted. Ryan rolled his eyes.
“Yes, but I have the wheel of the car, you dumb ass” He said calmly, then pulled into a parking space outside of the hotel. I looked up at it recognizing it as my previous home for the last few weeks. Josh hoisted me up over his shoulder as soon as we were out of the car. Ryan sighed, pulling my skirt down a bit. I glared at Josh.
“What’s that for?” I asked.
“He likes to show off his prize to the world. It’s creepy, really” Ryan stated. I sighed. These mercenaries were really starting to get annoying… well at least the one with me over his shoulder.

Chapter Thirteen :#
Welcome to The Pack
“I think she’s waking up…”
“Is she? No she’s not.”
“Yes she is.”
“No, Frankie. She’s clearly dead.”
“Come on Mikey, don’t be an idiot. Remember? That ended up killing Ray and Bob.”
“Oh shut it. She’s not going to wake up. She’s probably in a coma. There’s no way she’d be able to just get up after an hour of sleeping after that.”
“She’s okay and she’s waking up. Look. Her breathing changed.”
“No it didn’t. And she‘s not okay. I‘ll bet you twenty that she‘s stuck in a coma.”
“OH MY GOD! Fine, we’ll ask Gerard. What do you say, doc? Is she okay”
“Well, seeing as how she already fractured her arm and leg, this really doesn’t help at all. But she’ll heal within the week with her talking abilities…”
“So she’ll be okay?”
“Yes. Oh and she is waking up, by the way”
“DAMNIT!”
“Ha. Told you.”
I opened my eyes slowly, watching a tall boy with brown hair and eyes handing Frankie a crumpled bill. Frankie took it eagerly, then paused as he noticed I was awake. He grinned, his dog-like fangs winking at me in the dim light. I looked around. This room wasn’t nearly as nice as Ryan’s but it was quaint and somewhat relieving. It’s cream walls matched the brown carpet, and a single white window showed the moon happily. I sat up slowly, gripping the leather cushions of the couch I was lying on. Gerard nodded happily.
“It’s good that you’re up. If you were asleep for any longer, I think Frankie would have gone insane.” He stated. I nodded calmly.
“Oh… sorry… what happened?” I asked. Frankie shrugged.
“A blood sucker knocked you off of me and John and Gerard decided that it would be best if we took you for awhile to keep you out of harms way.” He explained. I stared at him, shocked.
“But what about Ryan?” I asked. The one I assumed to be Mikey sighed.
“He wasn’t to happy at first, but he agreed. He knows what’s best for you, don’t worry” He explained calmly. I nodded slowly. My therapy sessions would have to wait a bit longer before I could use them to crack open John and Ryan. I attempted to stand up, but my cast made me wobble, then fall back down. Frankie quickly caught me, allowing to fall onto the couch a bit more softly. I thought for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on now.
“So, Pete’s clan is perusing me, I assume?” I asked. They all nodded. I moaned, lying back down.
“Great. That guy freaks the crap out of me.” I snarled. Mikey laughed.
“You think he’s scary? You should see his boss.” He stated. I looked over at Mikey, a confused expression crossing my face.
“His boss?” I asked. Mikey nodded.
“Didn’t you know? Pete doesn’t own that clan. Patrick does. And almost anyone who meets him thinks he’s psychotic.” Mikey explained. Gerard leaned forward, grinning slightly.
“Mikey had to work for them so that we could make a business deal. Turns out they bailed anyways, but ever since Mikey can’t take a single step towards their house. He actually will sometimes walk on the other side of the street!” Gerard explained. Mikey punched his arm.
“Not true!” He snarled. I laughed to myself. These wolves were just like people only they were… well wolves. Frankie smirked at my stifled laughter.
“Oh, what? Are we amusing to you, Miss Talking?” He asked, teasingly. I shook my head.
“Oh, no. I’m sorry. I was laughing at your… manliness.” I teased back. Frankie’s grin spread, flashing his dog-like fangs
“So wait, you think I’m not manly? I’m very manly. So many, in fact that men feel inferior to my manliness.” He stated. I rolled my eyes.
“Uh huh. And the reason why you’re saying that is because, actually, you feel inferior and feel like telling people about how superior you are.” I retorted. Frankie held his chest, his eyes flashing their wolf blue.
“Ouch! Ouch! That hurt! Why would you say something so cruel?” He asked, “I can show you how manly I am.” He stated. Mikey rolled his eyes.
“Frankie, I know we’re dogs, but that’s no reason to go into that factor of being dog like to this innocent girl.” He stated. Frankie smirked.
“Well why not? She doesn’t seem to mind. Besides, she thinks I’m inferior” He said. Gerard sighed, picking up his cell phone and shoving it into his jacket pocket.
“That’s because you are. I am your medical examiner and you are just a tad inferior. So stop trying, shut up and if there’s talking guts strewn across the place when I get back from work, both of you are royally fucked.” He stated. Mikey moaned.
“Why would I be?” He asked. Gerard raised an eyebrow at the werewolf who had spoken up.
“Because. We know how Frankie gets when he finds something he likes. And with his nature, you definitely have to keep an eye out for him.” He explained. I looked over at Frankie who simply winked at me, his eyes now vibrant blue. I felt like some new chew toy that he desperately wanted to play with… or maybe… now I was beginning to feel like a little female dog. Maybe a Pomeranian or something cute like that… with a black bow… I shook my head. Why was I thinking about being a Pomeranian? I stood up, looking at my dirt streaked outfit. I looked up at Frankie.
“Um… do you have anything I can borrow?” I asked. Frankie nodded.
“Yep. Though you do still have my hoody.” He said rather smugly. I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah, but that’s because you lent it to me and I didn’t think I’d be seeing you again so soon. You know, we’ve really got to plan these events.” I stated sarcastically. Mikey laughed.
“Well, If you’re okay with hanging out with me and Frankie for the day, we could go shopping. Gerard’s a doctor so he makes a lot of money but he really doesn’t care how much money we spend as long as we can eat and pay the bills. So Frankie and I often stare at it, hoping it’ll do a trick. But now that we’ve got you here this paper could become a tool of entertainment.” Mikey stated. I sighed, glancing up at Frankie.
“As long as he stops looking at me as if I were a little Pomeranian in a tutu.” I snarled. Frankie gasped.
“What? I wasn’t thinking of you like that at all! No, I was thinking of a long haired Chihuahua with two black bows and a tutu” He joked. Mikey hit his arm.
“Come on, horn-dog. Lets go” Mikey snarled. Frankie shrugged.
“I’m sorry! It’s my doggy instincts!” He whimpered as the three of us exited the apartment.

Chapter Twelve D:<
An introduction to the Wolves
I walked onward with my four vampires. My hand was entwined with Ryan’s as we entered the large, expensive looking restaurant. He glanced down at me, his eyes turning their gorgeous hazel, soothing my soul. I smiled happily as Brendon looked towards the waiter.
“Good evening sir, a table for five?” He asked. The waiter examined all of us silently then nodded.
“Right. This way please.” He said calmly, picking up five menus then leading us inward. We sat down at a small table near the back. The man leaned down to Ryan, muttering in his ear. I looked away, exchanging glances with Brendon.
“So, Mr. Urie. How are you celebrating the new year?” I asked. Brendon blinked slightly.
“New years is coming up?” He asked. I laughed and nodded.
“Yeah, in a month. Christmas is coming up too” I stated. Spencer smiled happily.
“Christmas? We haven’t celebrated that in years! Can we have a Christmas this year? Please?” He asked eagerly.
“Oh yeah! That’d be so awesome if you guys did!” I said happily. John rolled his eyes.
“There’s a reason why we don’t have Christmas-” John began, but was interrupted by Ryan.
“Yes. We’ll have a Christmas this year.” He said calmly. Spencer and I exchanged glances, looking like a couple of excited children on, well, Christmas. Brendon clapped his hands.
“I’ll make a feast then! I’ll add blood into our meals and have regular food for miss Taya. It’ll be wondrous!” He cried. Ryan nodded, his teeth glistening in the dim light.
“It sounds like it will be. Taylor, will you be returning home for Christmas? Or will you join us?” He asked. I blinked silently, confused.
“Returning home? But I told my mom I’m not coming back this morning” I said softly. Ryan nodded.
“I see. Very well. Then we’ll make this the best Christmas you’ve ever had!” He stated. Brendon and Spencer nodded.
“Welcome to the family!” They cooed. John rolled his eyes.
“She’s not in the family yet” He grumbled. I sighed, looking back out the window. I felt the iritance rising, but I held it back. I wasn’t going to let John get the best of me. I leaned back into the chair, watching the waiter come back with a bottle of what looked to be wine. But when he poured the substance into the four other’s glasses, I knew exactly what it was. He was about to pour some into mine, when Ryan placed a finger on the rim of the bottle.
“Excuse me. She’s not one of us.” He said calmly. For some reason, that phrase made my heart drop… I stared down at my menu, flicking through it quietly. I really didn’t belong here, did I? I wasn’t in their family and I was just making them worry over me for false reasons. I glanced out the window, my ears suddenly growing larger as a sound caught my ears. I turned to the others.
“Get down!” I ordered, grabbing Spencer and pushing him towards the ground. The others followed as a street sign barely missed us. We all stood up slowly, staring at the two vampires standing at the broken window. Pete’s golden eyes made the hair on my neck stand up. I quickly stared at the other vampire, but his eyes were red so it didn’t help any more. I felt Ryan push me behind him and snarl as Pete stepped into the building.
“Pete. Leave, before I’m forced to get violent.” Ryan growled, his voice low. Pete smirked, stepping forward menacingly.
“What are you going to do? Throw your pussy blood at me? Come on, we know that fresh blood makes you stronger. Just hand over the girl and no one gets hurt.” He sneered. The other vampire followed behind him quietly, his curly brown hair and piercing red eyes making me more uncomfortable than John’s eyes. I stepped back nervously, my eyes locked with his. I heard a loud growl ricochet against the walls, snapping me back to reality. I stared forward at the four wolves standing at the wall now, on the other side of Pete and vampire #2. Pete grinned as he looked towards the other wall, two more vampires bursting through the side wall. The waiter moaned as I felt his pain of having to repair almost all of the walls of his restaurant. I glanced over at the vampires that entered, but before I could get a good look at them, I was pushed further back as Pete lunged. I felt my cast thump against the ground as I fell over, unable to support myself. I felt a pair of warm arms around me suddenly, pulling me back up. I looked up into the eyes of Frankie as he hoisted me into his arms.
“And now, we’re going to make a daring escape” He teased, running out into the kitchen. There was a noise behind me as I saw another vampire running at us. This one had about shoulder length red hair and wore glasses. His black eyes stared at me in anger as he dashed forward, clawing at Frankie. Frankie smirked as he kicked open the door and turned the corner.
“Climb on my back!” He called to me as we ran. I widened my eyes at his ridiculous statement.
“What?” I asked, shocked. His grin spread.
“Come on, just do it. Trust me!” He shouted, turning down another alley way. I cringed as he hoisted me over his shoulder and held my arms as I slid onto his back. His eyes turned their vibrant blue as his body began to twist into some strange shape. His body was now covered in black fur which shone in the moon light. He suddenly went down on all fours, dashing onward. I clung, wrapping my fingers around his locks of black fur. I felt the wind brush past my face as the warm fur lulled me into a false sense of security. I felt my body suddenly fly through the air as I was knocked off by the other vampire. I saw the moon beams falling on my face, then my mind went black as I ate the pavement.
Chapter Eleven D:
A miss-understanding
I looked up at Spencer as he slowly opened his eyes again and looked down at me. I gasped as I saw a gentle purple engulf the midnight black in his eyes. He looked up at the ceiling and smiled.
“I was happy somehow…” He said gently, “When I died. I realized that now, thanks to you.”
I met his eyes and smiled. He stood up and bowed, his eyes turning back to their human blue.
“I am in your debt.” He said softly. I shook my head, but he too shook his head before I could protest with words.
“You helped me find myself again when I thought I was lost. That is worth my life.” He said gently, then walked out calmly. I sat on the chair, lost in thought. That was two vampires that I had helped… now from what I had heard from the others, John too needed help. I pushed my hair back and sighed.
“If that’s what you want then I guess I can’t really object.” I said calmly. Spencer looked up at me and smiled.
“Now come on. I know that Brendon is probably working on a nice dinner and that you should change that dress. If you’re in here too long, it’ll look suspicious.” He said gently. I laughed and nodded, standing up.
“You’ll be there too, right?” I asked. He smiled and nodded.
“Yes. I will. Now go on and get ready.” He said gently. I smiled and hugged him tightly.
“Spencer, I love every one of you guys. You know that, right?” I asked. Spencer laughed.
“We love you too. Welcome to the family… even though John is being an asshole and moping around. Anyways, I’ll see you in an hour or so.” He stated. I nodded and walked out, stretching as I did so. But before I could-
(Back at the werewolf team squad thing of doom…)
Martin looked around, sniffing the air. He knew he had to be careful in case anyone saw him. His ears perked up as he caught a familiar scent, leading into the forest.
“I’ve got a lead. Everyone meet in the meadow in the watershed.” He messaged to the others in his mind. He heard replies, then almost instantly, a large silver wolf with purple eyes and a large black wolf with red and yellow eyes. Martin met them with his large yellow eyes as his reddish-brown fur blew in the wind. He turned and began running. They too followed. They had been searching for about an hour when suddenly the trail turned cold. Martin began sniffing vigorously, but he could only catch the strong scent of a-
“Leech.” Taija snarled. They all looked around. There was no blood anywhere, but there was a bottle of pills. Martin turned back, picking up the bottle. It was empty. He turned to the other two who had already turned back. Suddenly Taija shot up.
“I just got a heads up from another werewolf pack… They know where Taylor is.” She stated.
“Where is she?” Martin asked. Taija stood there for a moment, then held up a finger. She thought for a moment then turned to the others.
“Does anyone have a pen?” She asked. Martin reached into his pocket and handed Taija a small silver pen. She nodded and began writing on her arm. She waved her arm happily.
“I’ve got the address.” She said, grinning as her dog-like fangs glistened in the afternoon sun. We all turned back into out wolf forms and dashed off.
(Back to the vampire house hold)
I turned around to see Taija standing there. I heard yowling and growling in the next room. She grabbed my hand.
“Come on. We’ve come to rescue you.” She said gently. Suddenly Spencer was at my side, snarling.
“She doesn’t need you wolves kidnapping her.” He hissed. Taija growled and lunged at him. I backed up into the wall, unsure of what to do. If I shouted stop, then time would freeze… If I fought, then that would only make the situation worse. I watched as Spencer hit Taija back. Taija snarled and threw him into a wall, causing it to crack. I heard Brendon moan in the next room.
“Spencer, I hope you know that you’re going to have to fix that!” He called. A low growl erupted from Spencer’s throat as he stood back up.
“Fuck you Brendon. Only you would bring something like that at a time like this.” He snarled. I closed my eyes as I thought of what I could do to stop the fighting. Suddenly it hit me. I stepped out and shouted “Sit down on the couch, NOW!” Everyone did as I said as I felt my human glamour fade away. I stepped towards them then glared at Martin as he and Ryan began having a slapping fight. Suddenly the other werewolf pack ran in, panting.
“We came as soon as we heard that they were coming for you and-” Frankie started, but realized what was going on. Everyone turned to look up at me. I sighed and pushed some of my hair back, stepping forward.
“You don’t need to fight. Ryan, Spencer and Brendon. These are my friends that live back in delta. Martin, Taija and Jason, these are the people who rescued me.” I explained. Martin gave me a strange look.
“But they drink blood” He stated. I nodded.
“Packaged donated medical blood.” I said. Martin nodded slowly.
“I… see…” He said softly. Brendon whistled sharply.
“Awkward” He said in a sing-songy voice. I sighed as I looked at the mess.
“Come on, you made such a mess.” I said as I thought about all the work Ryan put into fixing the window. Brendon hissed.
“YOU FUCKERS BROKE MY CEILING!” He shouted. Everyone tore away from him. I closed my eyes and muttered “Ceiling, walls, furniture and floor. Fix yourself.” When I opened my eyes again, everything was fixed. I raised my eyebrow and looked at the group.
“There. Now. Calm down.” I stated, releasing the binding spell. The group stood up and the were-wolves reluctantly retreated. Before Martin could leave, I gripped his wrist.
“Hey… it would be better if my mother didn’t know my where-abouts…” I muttered. Martin nodded.
“Got it.” He stated. I nodded calmly, then released his wrist. I said my good-byes and watched them leave. I turned to the vampires and sighed.
“Sorry. I didn’t think that they’d go on a rescue mission” I stated. The others shook their heads except for John who had since retreated to his bedroom.
“think nothing of it. We get jumped by wolves all the time. Its all right” Ryan stated. I shook my head.
“No, but still. It wont happen again.” I stated. Ryan sighed and nodded.
“Very well. Go get changed. I’m sure you would feel more comfortable in a different outfit to go out for dinner in.” He said. I looked at the others.
“We’re eating out?” I asked. They all nodded.
“Yes we are. Now hurry up so that we can eat. I’m hungry” Brendon moaned. I laughed and nodded.
“I’ll hurry, b-den” I said calmly, dashing into the bedroom.
Chapter Ten :S
Spencer’s story
I opened my eyes to see the history teacher in front of me, his eyes narrowed like an irritated cat’s. I sat up as the teacher began rambling on about something. I think it was something about how I was sleeping in class. But I couldn’t tell because I was already hundreds of miles away. I stood up and walked out of the class room, ignoring the teacher and the fact that it was still an hour until the school day had ended. I ignored everything around me. The sneers of the students around me, the pleading of my one and only love. The only thing I saw leaving that class was my body colliding with another person. I ignored the person and continued walking blindly. I felt something grab me, then I saw my world disappear from my sight. I blinked and saw one of the kids that had hated me the most through out school standing over me, his hand gripping my shirt tightly. I stared up at him blankly as he cracked his neck. His crew of punk kids had always hated me. I never knew why. He shook me as my hearing returned to me.
“You bastard. Why’d you run into me, huh? Do you want to start something?” He asked. I shook my head.
“No. there’s nothing I want to start with you.” I stated. He shook me again.
“Then why’d you run into me, huh? Come on, lets go!” He shouted, taking off his jacket. Suddenly the teachers and students began spilling into the room and pulled both of us away from each other. I didn’t struggle but the other boy did. He snarled and hissed at me “Eight o’clock tonight. If you don’t come, I’ll find your girlfriend and kill her.”. After that, I pushed away from the teacher and fled the school. that’s when she came. She walked down and held my hand.
“Don’t go.” She said softly. I shook my head.
“I have to. He said he was going to kill you if I didn’t go.” I said calmly. She looked up at me and smiled.
“I don’t think they can find me. I think he was bluffing. They’ve threatened you before, right? And you’re still here. I’m still here. There’s no way they can kill us now.” She said calmly. I sighed.
“You’re not going to let me go, aren’t you?” I asked. She laughed and winked.
“How’d you guess?” She asked, teasing. I laughed and kissed her forehead.
“Fine. But if something does happen, you have to promise me that you’ll call right away. Got it?” I asked. She smiled and nodded.
“I got it. Love you, babe.” She said softly. I nodded and held her gently.
“I love you too.” I said softly.
I awoke that night to the phone ringing. I walked over nervously and answered it.
“Hello?” I asked. There was sobbing. Her sobbing.
“Where are you?” I asked. She made a noise.
“Don’t come. Don’t come!“ She cried. There was a sharp noise then nothing. I heard panting, then the phone was picked up.
“Spencer. If you want your revenge, then come to the corner store. We are in the back.” The voice demanded. I heard a noise coming from her lips.
“Don’t come… please…” She moaned. I felt tears running down my cheeks as I heard them rabidly jump on her and kill her. I heard her pain. I felt it. I closed my eyes, but respected her dying wish. I didn’t go. The next day I went to school in all black. Everyone cast me strange looks as I walked past, but I ignored them all. They were all monsters now in my eyes. I sat through my classes, dumbfounded. She was really gone. For ever… As soon as that last bell rang, I left the room. I wandered down the street and decided to cut through the park. I felt my eyes beginning to water. I sat down at the fountain and wiped one of my eyes. A large boot suddenly blocked my vision. The punk kid from yesterday stared down at me, cracking his knuckles. He grinned, his teeth glistening in the sun.
“I’m going to enjoy this even more now. Now that your soul has been broken down, there’s nothing left for you to fight for. This will be fun.” He said. He gripped my neck tightly and threw me into the ground. I felt multiple bones cracking against the pavement and saw shards of it fly around me. Suddenly more of his friends appeared. The leader held his hand up
“He’s mine.” He snarled. He suddenly leapt on me, trying to stab me. I weakly pushed his hand away. He grinned and snapped my arm, then punched me in the stomach. I puked up blood. The leader grinned and tried to end my life again. I kicked him off of me and stood up. He snarled and was suddenly behind me.
“Give up” He hissed. I turned around, but he wasn’t there. I felt tears running down my face as I thought about how I couldn’t beat this… thing that had killed her. I felt my body being thrown again and felt it collide with a near-by tree. I slumped against it, my eyes flickering. I saw the light from the world draining out. The entire time I felt her name being formed on my lips. That was all I said. Just as the figure got close again, I saw him. Ryan. He stepped in and threw the leader away.. The other ones saw what was happening and lunged at him, but Ryan hissed and dodged each one of them. Realizing that he was more powerful, they all ran away. He stepped towards me.
“Spencer Smith. I’m going to give you a choice between life and death. What will it be?” He asked. I looked at him and mouthed the word “live.” He nodded and leaned in. I felt his teeth pierce my neck. I closed my eyes as I let the pain engulf me. I felt my body grow stronger. I opened my eyes suddenly and I was at his apartment. There were the three of them. Ryan, Brendon and John. John looked at me, irritated. I looked around.
“Dead?” I asked. Ryan shook his head.
“They’re still alive.” He said as if understanding what I meant from the one word I spoke. I suddenly fled the room. I didn’t want them to live. I wanted to pay the same way she did. I found him very quickly. He looked at me strangely.
“Shouldn’t you be in a cast or something?” He asked nervously. I snarled and barred my new fangs at him. His eyes widened as he turned to run, but I didn’t let him go any where. I leapt on him and snapped his arm. He began crying but I felt no sympathy for him. I stared at him, my eyes midnight black. His friends appeared, but quickly ran as they saw me tearing apart his limbs. He screamed in pain. I finally finished him off by stabbing him through the heart with a dull stick I had found. I knew how much pain he was in from the look on his face. But I didn’t bite him. I left him. I walked away. As I was about to leave, Ryan appeared before me. He shook his head.
“You can’t do that, you got it? Don’t do that ever again unless it’s against another vampire or against a werewolf.” He ordered. I nodded sullenly. He sighed and lead me back to the house.
I looked over at Taya as I finished my story. She looked at the floor sullenly. Suddenly she was at my side, holding me closely.
“It’s okay to let it go.” She said softly. I hugged her as well. I hadn’t felt the warmth of a human against my body in so long. I closed my eyes and relaxed. I knew everything from this point on was going to change.
Chapter Nine 8D
I opened my eyes and looked around the bedroom. I could feel someone watching me. Sitting up, I looked at the phone. It had been hung up already. I suddenly noticed a figure hiding in the shadows. I stood up and walked over to it. It was Spencer. I stepped back as he stepped forward. He looked over to the phone.
“Your mom…” He said quietly. I shook my head.
“I had to tell her. It was for the best.” I said calmly. He shook his head and sat down.
“I... never got to say goodbye to my mom…” He said gently. I stared at him shocked as I sat down as well. I had never heard Spencer say anything but a single word before, but now he was talking in full sentences. He pushed some of his hair back and continued.
“Maybe if I had said goodbye, then she wouldn’t have mourned so much… It’s just that… I didn’t want her to worry at all. I talked to Brendon… He told me that you listen to people and make them feel at ease. He told me that I should talk to you. I guess he has a point though. None of us have been able to make Brendon let go of his previous life, you know.” Spencer explained. He looked at the door suddenly.
“Do you want some tea?” He asked. I nodded.
“If you’re making some then I guess I’ll have some as well, please.” I said. Spencer nodded and walked out. A few moments later he was back with a tea pot and two tea cups and saucers. He sat everything down and poured the dark tea into the cup. He placed some sugar in and passed me a small container of milk in the shape of a cat. I poured the milk silently and stirred it into the rest of my drink. I took a small sip, then placed the cup back down. Spencer also took a sip then looked into my eyes. He closed his eyes in thought then opened them again.
“I always believed that tea made everything better.” He explained. I nodded as I saw his eyes relax. He wasn’t smiling but for some reason it seemed as though he were happy. He leaned back and looked up at the ceiling.
“If I’m making you uncomfortable, you can say so, miss Vandenberg.” He said softly. I shook my head.
“No it’s okay. I’m just surprised that your talking to me all of a sudden.” I said, looking at my feet. Spencer shook his head.
“I wasn’t just not talking to you. I haven’t spoken to anyone since 1997. I just didn’t feel like dragging anyone down into my world. It was comforting until you came and I realized that as you were having so much fun with us, while this was happening, you went through near death experiences. The only reason you survived was because of what you are. And we were there for you. It made me realize that I need someone to talk to so that if something happens to me, I know that I will be missed or I will be taken care of properly. I think that the fact I never talked was the reason John was so willing to let me in. If you have someone who never talks, you have someone who never goes against you. Not talking is a sign of weakness and John took advantage of that. And I took everything he threw at me because I didn’t want to be alone. But then.. You stood up to him. You stood up to him for Brendon. And through that I saw how alone I actually was and how much I longed for someone that would do that for me. So I’m going to tell you my story. I don’t expect you to be my friend after I tell you this, I just want to get it off of my chest so that I can live again.” He stated. I looked at him in thought for a moment then nodded.
“Okay then Spencer, lets hear your story.” I said calmly, smiling at him.
Chapter Eight :[
(Martin’s POV)
I sat on the sofa of our new hide-out lazily. After that all-nighter of patrolling, I was exhausted. Jason sat on the chair next to me, playing left 4 dead. The door slamming in the next room became audible to my ears, along with the thundering footsteps. Taija slid into the room, her heart pounding and her lungs out of air. She stared over at me, her eyes flickering purple. I stood up and looked back at her, curiously.
“Brayden just called. Taya’s gone missing.” She stated. I raised an eyebrow at her.
“Does he have any idea as to where she’s gone to?” He asked. Taija shook her head.
“He wants us to find out.” She said calmly, her eyes turning there wolf-purple. I nodded, my eyes turning a sharp yellow, then turned to look over at Jason. He looked up at me and sighed turning off the video game.
“Okay. Taija, try contacting some of the other wolves in the area. See if any of them have seen her. Jason, go see if you can get information from any blood-suckers. Feel free to use any measures that you see necessary. I’ll be confronting all people in the area. Meet back here in 3 hours and we’ll compare information.” I ordered. Both of them nodded then ran out. I too walked off and began looking around.
“Come on, where are you?” I asked nothing.
Chapter Seven :U
Brendon and I stood outside the door in silence. I wrapped one hand around the handle and was about to open it when Brendon stopped me. He stared down at me with his normal, brown eyes calmly.
“Hey, you know… in a way you saved me.” He stated calmly, “And for that I owe you my life.”
I looked back up at him, wide-eyed.
“You owe me nothing! I’m just happy to feel useful” I said, looking back down at the handle and twisting it. It opened before Brendon could say another word. As soon as the door was wide enough for us to fit in, John was standing before us. He glared at Brendon, his eyes glowing his vampiric red.
“Where the hell did you run off to?” He snarled. Brendon just stared at him. John quickly lunged at Brendon, grabbing him by the cuff of his hoody and slamming him into the wall before I could even sense his movement.
“What the hell has gotten into you?” He roared. I quickly pulled on John’s arm, trying to pull him away from Brendon.
“Leave him alone!” I cried. John just dropped Brendon and grabbed my wrist, diverting his attention to me.
“What did you do to him, you little wench? We take you into our home so that you don’t get killed or used by them and how do you repay us?” He hissed, “You’re pathetic.”
Before I could even utter a word, I felt my body collide into the wall. I cringed as I felt my body hit it violently. I coughed in shock of the pain, a bit of blood spilling from my mouth. Brendon looked up at me, his eyes turning their vampire colour. He looked up at John and snarled, lunging at him. John snarled as well and turned back to him, catching him as the two flew across the room. I tried to push myself up, but I was in so much pain that I couldn’t. I watched as the room was torn apart and their vampire blood was being spilt on the ground and their wounds quickly healing as soon as they were made. I gritted my teeth and pushed myself up, tears beginning to swell in my eyes. I was beginning to think I had broken something. I limped over silently, trying to stop the fight before it got too serious. Suddenly Brendon grabbed John by the collar of his shirt and held his hand in a fist. The red in his eyes grew slightly larger and his pupils slightly smaller. He swung his fist back, snarling. I stared at Brendon, realizing that despite the pain, I needed to stop this. I ran, but quickly fell. Luckily I was close enough to Brendon by then that I reached my arms out and hugged him tightly. He froze, his eyes widening. He dropped the now slightly frightened, yet more shocked than anything John and turned to me, my arms now wrapped around his waist holding on with a death grip. Tears began to fall from my eyes as I felt a wave of relief wash over me. He hadn’t gone through with it. John stood up and looked at me, confused. The red in his eyes receded as he turned away and walked into his room, slamming the door. Brendon looked at me and lifted me up. He shook his head, chuckling gently.
“You need to learn when and when not to intervene.” He said calmly, lifting me onto his back. I slung my functional arm over his shoulder and leaned into his back. He placed me on the kitchen counter. He looked at my wounds and felt my bones. He shook his head again as he placed a hello kitty band-aid on a small cut I had received. His eyes met mine as he held my hand. His skin felt cold, yet there was a strange warmth emitting from it.
“Taya, hun, you broke a leg and an arm. Seeing as how you aren’t a vampire like myself or the others, you’ll have to stay here for a little while longer until you heal. Luckily we have a doctor that we can call.” He explained. I nodded as Brendon turned away, looking over at Ryan who had just entered the room. He looked over at me and then to Brendon, his eyes narrowing.
“Who did this to her?” Ryan asked, snarling as his eyes turned their hazel colour. Brendon simply held up one hand and shook his head.
“There’s no need. I already took care of it.” Brendon stated. He quickly changed his posture, “Well, I’m going to go call Gerard. He should be able to help.”
Ryan nodded as he walked over, standing by me.
“I’ll take Taya to her room and take care of her there.” Ryan said. Brendon nodded.
“I think that would be best.” He said, agreeing. I felt my body suddenly being lifted up as Brendon picked up the phone. I swore that if Ryan had lifted me up any faster, I would have gotten whiplash. He carried me into my room and laid me on the bed gently. Once I was in the bed, he stared at me straight in the eyes and leaned in towards my face until he was just inches from it. I stared up, my face reddening slightly.
“Don’t take on a vampire ever again, you hear?” He ordered, irritated. I looked back into his eyes, a look of determination crossing my own eyes.
“I had to do something. I wasn’t going to stand there and let Brendon get hurt” I said firmly. Ryan shook his head, then placed his head on my shoulder.
“I don’t want you to get hurt” He said gently. I stared at him and how he was now on my shoulder, slightly confused. Just a second ago he was irritated with me and now he sounded almost… worried. I felt his arms wrap around me and hold me tightly without harming my broken bones. My eyes widened in shock as I felt his cold body press against my own. He nuzzled me gently.
“I don’t want to lose something that I- that I care about again…” He whispered. I wrapped my working arm around him and hugged back.
“You wont lose me, Ryan.” I whispered in response. He pulled away slightly, staring into my eyes. I gazed back, my eyes searching his for some response. I saw a bit of pink immerge from his eye. Suddenly the door flung open as Gerard walked in. We both looked over at Gerard, then back to each other. The pink was gone. I looked back at Gerard as he shook his head.
“You got yourself pretty banged up, hey?” He asked walking over and looking at my leg. I stared at him as he examined it, then he moved to my arm and the rest of my body. When he was done, he nodded sullenly.
“It’s certain that you fractured both your arm and your leg. You also bruised your back, and most of your body that I assume hit the wall. We need to put your body parts in a cast, but we can’t go to the hospital… we might get caught…” He murmured. He gazed over at Ryan who stared back, sullen. They exchanged glances in thought for a moment. Ryan looked at the ceiling and sighed.
“This is way too difficult. We need to get Taya into a cast so that she can heal, but we can’t get into the hospital because Pete will find her instantly. And if Pete’s in the hospital with the others, there’s no way just you and I can take him.” Ryan said, looking at Gerard. A grin spread across their faces as their eyes lit up. They turned to me suddenly, their smiles remaining on their faces.
“Alone, we wont stand a chance… but all together…” Ryan said gently, standing up. I felt my body being lifted up into the air, then cradled in a pair of arms. They were Ryan’s. He began walking towards the door, then looked at Gerard.
“I’ll get a head start. You get Brendon and the others together, okay?” Ryan asked. Gerard shook his head.
“You aren’t going anywhere by yourself with her. What would happen if Pete attacked while you were carrying her? You wouldn’t be able to defend against him with Taya in your arms. Take Frankie with you.” He stated. Ryan nodded, looking over to a figure leaning by the door. I almost leapt out of my skin when I saw Frankie standing there. He looked much more sullen then he had earlier. He looked up at me, his eyes changing from their usual green to a pale blue. He looked over at Ryan, raising an eyebrow.
“Hey, Ry, maybe I should carry her. If my scent mixes with hers, it’ll be less noticeable.” He suggested. Ryan looked down at me, as if thinking about it for a moment. Gerard looked over at Ryan as Ryan looked up, casting him a look. Ryan nodded grimly and handed me to Frankie.
“Be careful with her. If you hurt her in anyway, I will tear your throat out.” Ryan snarled. Frankie snapped his jaws at Ryan, making a dog-like snarl as he held me in his arms.
“I’m not reckless, Ryan,” Frankie growled, “Now come on. We should get a move on if we want to get there before Pete notices us.”
Ryan sighed as he nodded. He opened the door, stepping aside to allow Frankie and I to go past him. We walked out into the hallway and both Ryan and Frankie paused for a moment. They looked both ways, then started running. It felt like the time Ryan had kidnapped me and taken me to their place. Only this time I was in someone else’s arms. It felt weird, for some reason. I didn’t know why but when I was younger I would have loved to be carried in any man’s arms, but now I… I just didn’t know. I looked up into Frankie’s pale blue eyes. He looked down at me momentarily. His eyes were extremely wolf like now. I looked back forward, watching the world whirl past me. I clung onto Frankie’s shirt in fear that at any moment I might fall out of his arms and tumble towards the earth. At this speed and the state I was in, I probably wouldn’t make it. We suddenly stopped at the emergency room at the hospital. Gerard and the others were already there. Frankie sat me in a wheel chair and Gerard grabbed the handles of it. If you’ve ever been in a wheel chair when the person behind you is running, you couldn’t imagine this. I felt that at any moment the wheel chair was going to flip and I would go colliding into the ground, injuring my body further. The wheel chair suddenly stopped as we came to a room. I looked inside. It looked like a slightly different version of the room I had been in earlier this week. Gerard lifted me up and placed me on the table. He looked over at Frankie.
“Go join the others outside, Ryan you stay here. Taylor will probably feel more comfortable with you in here with me.” Gerard stated. Frankie nodded and walked outside. Gerard sighed as the door was shut behind him. He took out what looked to be paper mache and laid it beside me. He looked over at Ryan.
“You might want to hold her working hand for this. I have to reposition the bone so that it repairs properly.” Gerard stated. I looked up at Gerard nervously as I felt Ryan’s hand entwine with mine.
“Will this hurt?” I asked nervously. Gerard grinned bitterly.
“Sorry” He said softly, pulling on my arm. I made a loud, shrill like noise as he re-adjusted my arm. He quickly went to work, wrapping my arm in the cold plaster. I squeezed Ryan’s hand from the shock of my arm being moved. He simply stared back at me, holding my hand. His eyes remained expressionless. Gerard then went to my leg and re-adjusted that too. I quickly fell into Ryan’s side, squeezing his hand again. As Gerard continued to wrap up my leg, Ryan nuzzled into my head, pressing his lips against the top of my head gently. My face reddened slightly as I buried my head in deeper. Gerard suddenly leapt back up. I turned around to face him.
“All good. Now, as long as your careful you should be healed in no time. With your essence in your blood, it should increase the healing rate.” Gerard explained. I nodded as Ryan lifted me up. I looked at my arm, examining it’s sudden thickness. As we were about to exit, there was a yowl. We all stared out the window, seeing blood flying everywhere. Gerard turned to look at Ryan, worried. Ryan shook his head.
“Who ever it is will be gone soon. No one will die today. I know.” He said calmly. Gerard nodded, then looked forward again.
“Regardless, I should help them.” He stated, his body twisting into that of a giant wolf’s. He looked at Ryan.
“I’ll help you get out. Frankie’s probably too into the fight right now to do anything” Gerard offered. Ryan nodded.
“That’d be great if you could. I can’t really fight when I’m holding Taya.” He said calmly. I looked up at Ryan, who simply stared back momentarily. He then looked back forward as Gerard burst through the door. Ryan dashed forward, running towards the exit. As we ran, I saw a vampire stand in front of us. I raised my hand towards it, my eyes narrowing.
“Go away” I ordered. The vampire was suddenly blasted away. Ryan looked down at me, shocked. I just smiled.
“ I’ve been practicing” I stated. Ryan laughed as he continued running. A group of vampires suddenly appeared and began running after us. I tried to blast some of them away, but I couldn’t see who I was attacking. Realizing this issue, Ryan ran faster. Another group of vampires leapt out, causing us to veer right. I could hear their growling behind us. Just as we thought this couldn’t get any worse, a dead end with no exit but a single window laid ahead of us. Ryan held onto me more tightly, biting his lip as he continued on towards the window. I looked up at him nervously.
“What are you doing?” I asked. Ryan let a deep breath of air out slowly.
“Hold on.” He stated. I looked at him in disbelief.
“w-what?” I asked, looking back forward.
“I said… hold on!” He shouted, leaping through the window. Instinctively, I shut my eyes tightly. I heard the glass shatter as our bodies crashed against it. I clutched the cloth of his shirt tightly between my fingers as I felt us soar through the air towards the ground. I felt a sudden vibration course through my body then heard the slapping of rubber against the cement ground. I opened my eyes slowly as I looked around. We had made it to the ground. I let a deep breath of relief rush out of my lungs. Ryan continued running towards the building. Instinctively I looked behind me. The other vampires had stopped their pursuit.
“Did they stop?” Ryan asked, staring ahead. I stared at him for a moment, then quickly nodded.
“Yeah, they stopped. You are the alpha-vamp” I joked. Ryan laughed as he leapt down into an alleyway then dashed into a building. He leapt into an elevator then stood their quietly as the elevator music coursed through the small room. As soon as the elevator stopped, Ryan stepped forward, only to be stopped by Pete.
“Game over, Ryan.” He snarled. Ryan held me closely and stared back at Pete. Pete’s face suddenly turned to shock as he collapsed, revealing Spencer who stood behind him, shaking his fist.
“Bitch…” He muttered, looking down at Pete. He looked back up at us as the corners of his mouth twitched upwards slightly. He quickly shook his head and wandered back to the apartment. Ryan followed quietly. He walked into the apartment and then to my room and opened the door. Laying me down on the bed, he kissed my forehead.
“Was that enough adventure for today?” He asked slyly. I laughed.
“I think I can withstand a bit more.” I said. Ryan grinned as he pushed some of my hair back, staring into my eyes. He then walked out of the room. I watched him go, then turned onto my back and stared at the ceiling. That’s when it hit me. I had to tell my mom something. I bit my lip, thinking up all of the options I had. Tears began running down my face as I realized what I had to do. I looked to my right. There on the nightstand sat a phone. Conveniently placed, and smiling away at me. I inhaled sharply through my nose, then took the phone in my hand, dialling my home number. I heard a sudden clicking noise.
“Hello?” The voice on the other end asked. It was my mom.
“Oh, uh, hey mom.” I said softly.
“Oh my god! Taylor! Are you okay?” She asked, freaking out. Another tear ran down my cheek.
“Y-yeah I’m fine… but mom…” I said, trying to get her attention.
“Good! Then where are you? We’ll pick you up immediately!” She cried. I shook my head.
“Mom… I’m not coming back. I’m staying where I am… and I may never see you again…” I stated. I heard my mom make a noise.
“W-what do you mean? have you been kidnapped?” She asked.
“No mom. I’ve left.” I said, then hung up the phone before I could endure anymore. I threw the phone away and collapsed on the bed. The tears had stopped. I pushed my hair back.
“It was for the best.” I stated reassuring myself.
Chapter Six :]
(Brendon’s POV)
I stood outside the house sullenly. Looking around, I saw everyone else on the street running around happily. I stared back at my old home. A for sale sign was staked into the overgrown lawn. The lawn was almost up to my waist, from sitting unattended to for so long. I closed my eyes, the house returning to the way it had been before I left it. Opening my eyes again, I saw the peeling paint and stained windows lay before me. I opened the broken white picket fence’s gate and walked across the lawn towards the door. I sensed a few people watching me strangely as I walked in. I’m sure they weren’t expecting someone to enter that building for many more years, or perhaps, this fortress was expected to never be penetrated again. I closed my eyes as I held my breath, letting the gentle wind brush over my face. I wrapped my hand around the cold metal of the door handle and opened it. I let my breath back out as I heard the door click and open as I pushed my weight on it. I walked in, leaving the door open. I paced across the floor, hearing every floor board creak as I moved. I climbed the stairs, the same feeling entering my heart as I walked up stairs. The house had been emptied, but I could still remember where Sophia’s room had been. I opened that door as well, letting it fall open with a loud creak. I stepped into the room, taking in a deep breath. My eyes wandered, examining the rolling wallpaper. I looked over towards the upper left corner and noticed a small object. I walked towards it, picking it up. It was a stuffed doll, Sophia’s favourite when she was young. I felt the hot tears pricking my eyes as I stared at the doll, feeling its small, glass beaded eyes. I bit my lip gently, trying to hold back the tears. I sat down on the floor silently, stroking the doll’s long hair. It was dark brown, just like Sophia’s. I placed my forehead against the doll, my tears now spilling down my cheeks. I had been biting my lip so hard that what ever blood remained in my soulless body was now spilling down my chin. I let go as I felt the sharp pain of my own fangs pierce me shock my body. I wiped the blood gently and stared at the doll. I began rubbing its glass eyes, staring into them and letting them lull me into a sense of security. I felt my nail accidentally dig into the underside of the bead and tear it out. I stared at the doll in disbelief for a moment. It only took a moment for me to stop and begin laughing.
“I should have expected this,” I stated bitterly, laughing still, “After all, I’m a monster”
“Brendon! Where are you?” A voice called. I spun my head around, recognizing Taya’s voice. I felt my heart calm down as I looked back down at the doll. I remembered what had been my hurry to get home that day as I stared back into the doll’s eye. It had been to lay Sophia to sleep. Closing my eyes, I gently kissed the doll on the forehead.
“I’ll cut my losses and do what’s hardest for me. So goodnight and I‘ll see you sometime later.” I said softly, laying the doll on the ground. I felt my stomach twist. No man should have to watch his daughter die. No man should live longer than his own child. I wiped the remaining tears from my eyes and turned around to look at Taya. She stared at me, concerned.
“Brendon are you ok- Brendon? What are you doing?” She asked, shocked by my sudden embrace. I held her tightly in my arms. For now, I knew what I had to do. Protect Taya from ever suffering what I or Sophia had suffered.
“I’m sorry…” I muttered. Taya just wrapped her hands around me and hugged back.
“Don’t worry. You did nothing wrong.” She stated. I nodded, feeling my tears beginning to spill again. Later I would beg her not to tell the others, but for now what Ryan and John thought didn’t matter.
Chapter Five :[]
As I walked down the narrow hallway, I thought about the story I had just been told. Brendon had suffered so much to get here, and I didn’t know what sacrifices the others even had to make. It seemed as everyone had a skeleton in their closet. I sighed, turning to my door and opening it softly. I stepped in sullenly, pushing a lock of hair back. My hair had been growing faster than usual, which was strange. It had gone from it’s just above the shoulder length to around the shoulders in just the past week. I sat down in the chair by the window and looked out of my tower. I saw a figure down below look up at me. My heart stopped. Was that… Frankie? I placed my hands on the glass and stared down. Though it was near impossible to tell at this distance, I could somehow make out his body shape. He quickly looked away and disappeared. I continued to stare at the sidewalk wondering if he was going to come back. Giving up I sat back down and continued to stare out the window. A single blue bird flew by the window. I stood back up, and walked into the closet. I needed to get something other than this nightgown which made me look like a serial killer. I began looking through the dresses casually, examining each one and wondering which one would be good for today. As I looked through, a thought occurred to me. They had only bought dresses. Not once had I seen a pair of jeans, a t-shirt or anything like that for that matter. I sighed as I pulled out a cerulean blue dress with cap sleeves and slipped it on, replacing the night gown with its gentle cotton fabric. It gently flowed down until about my knees. It seemed to fit an early spring sunny afternoon, but I knew that I would soon be freezing. Ignoring how I was feeling, I walked out of my bedroom into the main room and sat down feeling bored. What was I going to do now? I looked up at the ceiling, watching the clouds go by. I began humming to myself to pass the time. I soft song passed through my mind and placed itself on my lips, as my mouth began to form the lyrics. The song began to fall from my lips. I closed my eyes and fell back into the couch. I felt the warm velvet like material engulf me and sent me traveling into my imaginary world. It was my usual place, the one I had seen only a few days before in my room until I became shocked and fell on the floor, shattering a mirror and injuring myself as I did so. The song was still playing which meant I was most likely still singing. I was walking in a field, still wearing the blue dress, barefoot. Everything seemed normal for my world, but what really stuck out was when I passed a puddle. I dropped to my knees, unbelieving that I was gazing into my own face. My ears had become longer, almost like the stereo-typical elf’s only larger and more flexible. They were almost like a strange animal’s. I tugged on them, nervously. I looked back up to see a shadowy figure in front of me hold out his hand. His brown eyes sparkled at me as they changed to a hazel and his entire body became a human’s. I looked to my side and saw a large group of shadows charging forward. Ryan grabbed my hand suddenly and pulled me into his chest, beginning to run. He suddenly leapt of the cliff with me in his arms, the other shadows close behind. Ryan continued hurrying until he came to the beach. We both looked back and noticed that the shadows seemed trapped by the shore. Ryan dashed off into the forest until we saw the tree house. He climbed up, still holding me and sat me down. He panted lightly, then looked up at me and grinned.
“Even in your dreams you’re in trouble.” He teased. I shook my head sighing.
“How’d you get here?” I asked. Ryan shrugged as he looked up at the ceiling.
“I came over to see what you were up to and you looked as if you were in a trance. Worried, I touched you to try and wake you up but I guess instead my mind was transported here.” He explained, looking back at me, “So how do we get back?”
I pushed my hair back, frustrated.
“I don’t know. I thought you would.” I stated. Ryan shook his head and looked out the door suddenly. He grabbed my hand.
“Well, what ever the escape route may be, we can’t stay here anymore. Your dream vampires are starting to come up and telling by the form they’re in, they won’t be too friendly.” He stated, pulling me into his chest. He held onto me tightly as he leapt through the wooden wall of the tree house and broke through, pieces of wood littering the ground. He ran through the woods with me in his arms, looking behind him occasionally. He suddenly leapt into the trees and began leaping from branch to branch. I looked down to see Pete snarling below. Ryan closed his eyes suddenly, cringing as a pair of large, bat-like, black wings burst from his back. He made a soft noise as he took off into the sky. I clung onto him, the feeling of flying rushing into my emotions. Before when I had done it in my dream, It didn’t feel this… real. Ryan looked down at me, his hazel eyes glistening.
“So you aren’t afraid of my wings?” He asked. I shook my head.
“I think they’re rather cute” I commented. Ryan made a noise.
“Oh! Cute huh? I’ll have you know that people cower in fear when they see these.” He stated. I laughed.
“Sure. The same way a little girl cowers in fear of a pony.” I noted sarcastically. He smirked and bent down towards my neck so that I could feel every breath he let out.
“I could always bite you, hm?” He threatened, his whispered words tickling my ear. I looked at him straight in the eyes.
“You aren’t that kind of a person.” I said softly. He stared at me for a few moments, then turned away.
“How do you know?” He asked.
“I can tell.” I said, looking down at the water. I stared for a moment then looked back, “They’ve given up”
Ryan nodded and landed back on the cliff gently and placed me back down. I brushed off my dress calmly and looked around, tugging on my long ears again. Ryan laughed.
“You’ll get used to it. It’s what you look like naturally as a Talking.” he stated, then took my face in his hand, “Let me see your eyes.”
He examined my eyes carefully for what felt like ages. Once he had finished he looked me over, then examined my eyes again. Once he had finished he sighed, rubbing his forehead. He sat down, then looked up at me, smiling, yet with a look of concern crossing his eyes.
“Well, here’s some good and bad news. You have many colours in your eyes.” He stated. I gazed at him curiously.
“More than one colour? My eyes are blue.” I stated, looking at him as if he had some sort of creature growing out the side of his head. He shook his head.
“You have more than one colour now. Go look at your reflection.” He suggested. I looked at him as a puddle suddenly appeared beside me. I reluctantly looked down and noticed the many different colours in my eyes now. Blue was the main colour, how ever there were tiny spots of other colours. I looked over at Ryan curiously.
“What does this mean?” I asked. Ryan smirked slightly, amused by how little I knew.
“ It means that each of those spots of colour hold a power. Or they resemble one. Really the power is within you but regardless, you can tell what kind of a talking your up against by the colour in their eyes. And I’d have to say you’d be a rank A one if trained hard enough.” Ryan explained. Suddenly the world around me began fading away. Ryan looked around, “Looks like someone’s waking up.” He stated. I opened my eyes suddenly, looking around me. Ryan had just woken up, and retracted his hand which was previously on my hand. I looked at him, wondering if it was all just a dream. Ryan just shook his head and stood up, stretching.
“Man, I haven’t slept like that in ages.” He stated, yawning. His fangs made him look like a lazy cat. I sat up, rubbing one eye sleepily. I looked around again. There were dishes from lunch that hadn’t been dealt with. Ryan too noticed this. A pained look crossed his face.
“Brendon normally takes care of that. He’s a dish Nazi. But those were there when I went over to you and that looks as if it were about… two hours ago.” He stated. An unreadable look crossed his eyes suddenly as he practically ran to his bedroom.
“Brendon’s not here.” He stated. I stood up instantly.
“What?” I asked, unbelieving.
“Brendon’s disappeared. One second.” He said, running to John’s room. There was a moment of hushed voices, then Ryan burst back out.
“Brendon’s gone.” He said, his eyes gaining a frantic look. I thought for a moment, then walked over to Brendon’s room to double check. On his table, there was photo album and on top of that photo album there was a picture of a house. I flipped it over to see an address scrawled on the back. I grabbed the photo and turned to Ryan.
“I’m going to look for him.” I said, then turned to walk out. Ryan grabbed my wrist quickly.
“No, it’s too dangerous right now.” He stated, then pulled me back. I stared him straight in the eye, standing my ground.
“I’ll be fine. If anyone tries to attack me, I’ll attack them back.” I said, trying to reassure him. Ryan shook his head.
“I might have lost my best friend. I don’t want to lose my- I don’t want to lose you too.” He said firmly. I looked at the door then back at him.
“I know where he is. It’s not far. I’ll be okay.” I said calmly, then held up a cell phone from the hoody I had worn in the hospital, found a pen and paper on the table and wrote down my number. I placed it in Ryan’s hand and closed his hand gently.
“I’ll be okay. I have a cell phone and I’ll call you if I run into trouble.” I said softly. Ryan sighed and nodded, looking out the window.
“There’s no convincing you otherwise, I assume” He stated. I shook my head.
“No. I’d just walk out if you didn’t let me. I may not know Brendon very well, but I still care about him like a big brother.” I explained. Ryan nodded, turning back to face me.
“But if you get into any trouble-” He started. I nodded.
“I’ll report it to you right away.” I said, smiling. Ryan smiled gently and nodded, holding my hand. I felt something cold touch it.
“Good. Then go get Brendon back from where ever he is.” Ryan ordered. I nodded, walking out. As soon as I left the building, I realized I had forgotten my jacket. I cursed as I looked in my hand. Ryan had slipped a bus fare in my hand. I laughed slightly looking up. I couldn’t see him from here, even if he had been in the window. I walked over to the bus station and sat on the bench waiting for the bus to come silently. I watched many cars go by, then looked over at my phone. I had about five missed calls all from my mom. Assuming I should call her, I did. I heard the phone ring steadily for about three rings then hearing the voice mail, I left a message stating that I was okay and I’d be seeing her soon. I wasn’t sure of the certainty of my words, so I simply added ‘I love you’ and left it at that. I looked at the street, watching a random car with a rainbow paint job go by. I watched it wondering who the heck paints their car like that. Looking back at the many other cars, I ignored the rainbow car as it disappeared down the street. I had been waiting for about ten minutes when someone else sat down beside me suddenly. I had always had an issue with trying to ignore the person beside me, so that’s what I did. I suddenly felt warmth as a jacket was draped over me. I spun around to face the person and immediately recognized those dog-like hazel eyes.
“You looked cold. Don’t you know you shouldn’t be wearing a short-sleeved spring dress in winter?” He stated, adjusting his emo-cut black hair. He grinned, barring his dog-like teeth.
“Frankie?” I asked, unbelieving. He laughed.
“You say it like you’re shocked to see me. You do know that my pack and I live just down the street, right?” He asked. I shook my head.
“I didn’t. So, based on the fact that people call your people a dog… I’m assuming that you’re a werewolf?” I asked, guessing. Frankie nodded, giving me a thumbs up.
“Bingo!” He exclaimed, “So where are you off to?”
“I’m retrieving a lost personal.” I stated as the bus pulled in. I began stepping on as Frankie followed. We both put our bus fare in and sat down.
“So which one got lost? Spencer again?” He asked. I shook my head.
“Guess again.” I said. Frankie sat there in thought for a moment, biting his lip. He looked at me again.
“Hmmm… Ryan?” He asked. I shook my head. Frankie shook his head as well.
“Naw. That’s true. Ryan’s pretty good with never running away… John?” He asked. I grinned and shook my head again. He stared at me, wide-eyed.
“Brendon?” He asked. I nodded.
“He left while we were all off doing things.” I explained. I didn’t want to tell him about how Ryan and I had an adventure in my dreams. That would just sound weird. Frankie nodded.
“Wow… Hey, you wondering how I know all their names?” He asked. I shrugged.
“Why not? You’re probably going to tell me anyways” I joked. Frankie laughed.
“Yeah, I would. But anyways, it’s because Ryan’s clan is actually the only vampire clan we get along with somewhat. We don’t like the vampires, but we can tolerate them because they don’t go around killing people. They just take the leftover donated blood that hasn’t been used and drink that. And no one dies for it.” He explained. I nodded, then looked at him, confused.
“You mean the others don’t?” I asked. Frankie nodded.
“They’re leaches. All of them are, but Ryan’s clan is much more civil about it. Pete’s clan likes to keep it old fashioned and murder people.” Frankie stated. I sighed.
“Wow. Less than one week and I’m immersed in a world that I never knew actually existed…” I muttered. Frankie laughed and pushed me lightly.
“Oh, you’ll get used to it. Once you do, it’s really quite cool. I had to get used to it quite badly. Anyways, this is your stop, right?” He asked. I looked up and looked at the picture. I nodded.
“Yeah, it is. Thanks for keeping me company… uh do you want your hoody back?” I asked. Frankie shook his head.
“Naw, keep it. I’ll stop by to pick it up if I want it. Besides. Those perverts only bought you dresses, right? You’ll need some form of clothing to keep your style.” He joked. I laughed.
“Thanks Frankie” I said, walking off the bus. As I passed by his window, he looked out, and grinned.
“Hey, keep in touch, okay?” He asked through the gape between the ajar window and he ceiling. I nodded.
“Will do” I stated as the bus took off. I began walking down the main street silently, looking for the branched off street carefully, checking the picture every few moments.
“Hold on Brendon. I’m coming.” I said softly.
Chapter Four :3
(Brendon’s POV)
I closed my eyes gently as Taya became eliminated from my sight. My mind wandered back to the time when I was human. I felt another tear streak down my face and laughed. I, one of the most feared creatures on earth, was crying. I was suddenly transported to the ride home from work on that dark day. I wanted to tell myself to drive faster, to hurry up to save Sophia and my wife, but the scene played the same way it had when I had lived it. I pulled into the driveway, locking the door and walking towards the house. I remembered as I walked into the front doorway, I had this strange sensation as if someone was watching me and a bitter taste on my tongue. Some people had said to me once that when you taste a bitter taste on your tongue, then something bad is going to happen. Ignoring my increased heart rate, I opened the door and walked in carefully. I looked around. None of the lights were on.
“Lucy?” I called, my ears searching for the voice of my wife. There was no answer.
“Sophia?” I called, this time switching my target to that of my daughter. There was still no answer. There was a sudden noise from the upstairs bedroom. I quietly walked upstairs, each footstep getting heavier as I got higher and higher. My breathing grew quicker to keep in time with my heartbeat. My eyes searched the hallway for anything that might jump out at me. Looking to my side, I quickly grabbed a lamp from the hallway, continuing to step forward. My eyes darted from side to side when I finally spotted a light from Sophia’s room. I gently turned the handle, allowing the door to swing open by it’s self as I held the large lamp in my hand, defensively. On my daughter’s bed, a hideous creature sat hunched over. I watched in horror as I saw my daughter’s limp body in it’s arms as the figure drank from her throat, a small trickle of blood running down. It dropped her suddenly, it’s eyes falling on me. It grinned wickedly, taking a form of a more human like creature. The creature which I now assumed to be a boy took a step forward then suddenly lunged at me. I took my lamp and swung it forward, hitting the creature across the face. He snarled, his wound healing.
“What did you do to my daughter?” I asked, shouting at him. He shrugged innocently.
“the first lady didn’t satisfy my appetite, so I moved on to the little girl. You don’t mind, do you?” He sneered, getting back up. His blood red eyes shot through my heart as he took a step forward, his fangs glistening as a wide smile spread across his face. I held up the lamp defensively.
“Now that we know that, I suppose I should tell you. Both girls didn’t satisfy my appetite. How do you feel about joining them?” He asked. I snarled, hitting him across the face again, harder this time. The creature fell to the floor, a bit of blood spilling from his wound.
“I’ll join them in my own time, asshole” I growled. I hit him again in the stomach. The creature groaned and vomited a bit of blood. I went to swing again, but this time the creature grabbed the lamp. His eyes stared back furiously into mine. He gripped the lamp tightly, then pulled it out of my hand and threw it across the room. He then grabbed my throat and slammed me into the wall. I clawed at his hand, feeling defenceless. He stared into my eyes, sighing.
“I really hate human eyes. They are filled with such… innocence. So weak.” he said softly, then stabbed me through the heart with the lamp. I felt the sharp pain then the blood draining from my body. I gritted my teeth. There was a sudden noise as the vampire was flung away from me. All I could hear were animal noises. I looked around and saw the other vampire flee as a figure stepped up to me. He crouched down, staring straight down at me. All I could see were two hazel eyes staring down at me. I felt a sense of calamity as he stared into me. He looked around at what had happened, then stared back at me.
“Mr. Urie? Brendon? If you can hear me, I want you to wave your pointer finger.” He stated. I made a noise and waved my finger. He grinned gently.
“Okay, good. Now I’m going to give you a choice now. I want you to choose between dying or moving onto a different way of living. Becoming someone like me. What do you say?” The man asked. I coughed slightly and nodded.
“I want… to live” I said gently. He nodded, then reached over and pulled the lamp out of me. I gritted my teeth as I felt the metal come loose from my body. As my vision darkened, one thing woke me up. A pair of fangs piercing my neck. I was so overwhelmed in pain that I couldn’t make a noise. I quickly lost consciousness. The one thought that ran through my mind was revenge and love for my daughter and wife. I saw Sophia reaching her hand out to me as I felt the blood draining from me, but as I reached, I was quickly pulled away. When I awoke, the man from the previous night was leaning against the wall, along with another man. The other man took a step forward.
“Good morning, Brendon. I am John and this is Ryan. Don’t expect us to welcome you.” He snarled then walked back out. The one named Ryan stepped towards me.
“Welcome to our family. Excuse John. He’s normally like that. Anyways, are you hungry?” He asked, holding out a blood packet. I quickly grabbed the packet and began hungrily slurping on it. I looked up at Ryan, who had begun to walk out.
“What happened to my family?” I asked. Ryan froze then opened the door.
“Dead on arrival.” He stated, the shut the door behind him. I felt my mind spin. They were gone forever…
I was quickly transported from the past and back into the present. I looked over at Taya who was now crying as well. She stared back into my eyes as she held me tightly.
“I’m sorry” She said softly. I shook my head as I wiped my eyes.
“You didn’t do anything.” I stated. Taya shook her head.
“No, its that I can’t do anything” She said gently. I quickly grabbed her arms, staring straight into her blue eyes. They reflected pools of the ocean, something I hadn’t seen in a while.
“You don’t need to do anything. Just be you and don’t give into anything.” I said firmly, yet gently. She nodded wiping her eyes again.
“Okay.” She said calmly. I smiled happily.
“Now, go get changed. it’s about three in the afternoon and you’re still in pyjamas!” I exclaimed, trying to cheer her up. She nodded.
“Okay Brendon” She said, standing up. I too stood up, walking her to the door. I closed it gently behind her. Once I had safely closed it behind me, I collapsed as more tears fell down my cheeks. I wiped them away, biting my lip sadly.
“That vampire was right. Human eyes do reflect innocence. However I do have to say that I quite enjoy the innocence that humans hold.” I said gently, looking up at the ceiling.
Chapter Three :X
I looked around at the other three vamps sitting around me watching me eat. I nervously took a bite of the meal, staring straight at Brendon, unsure of what to do right now. Brendon simply smiled as I stared at the food, shocked.
“Do you like it? Huh? Huh?” He asked. I nodded still surprised.
“It’s really good!” I said happily. Brendon smiled.
“Great! I-” He began but was interrupted by John walking through the house, slamming his bedroom door. He took a blood pack out of the fridge and began microwaving it, waiting for a bit before taking it back out. I watched him as he walked back. Brendon shook his head.
“You’d think that if he was on a rampage, he’d be a little more considerate.” Brendon said calmly. I looked over at Ryan nervously. He just smiled back.
“Don’t worry. He acts like this when ever anyone joins our clan. It’s his way of testing you. If you can stand his behaviour like this, then you should be able to be accepted by him. If not then he’s just being an ass.” Ryan explained. I nodded looking over at Spencer. He just stared at me, his eyes reflecting a sense of sorrow and hurting. I looked back down at my food and shoved in another mouthful, trying to ignore his look. I stared down at my feet awkwardly as I could feel his gaze boring into me. Ryan placed one hand on my shoulder as I heard a soft noise come out of his throat. I looked back up to see Spencer looking out the window now. I looked up at Ryan who simply smiled. I looked back down wiping my mouth and standing up. Brendon quickly leapt to his feet and took my plate, walking back to the kitchen. I stared at him as he walked back, surprised at how quickly he had gone and come back. Ryan looked down at me and smiled gently. I smiled back. He looked towards the hall way, then to Brendon.
“Hey Brendon, do you want to show Taya to her bedroom?” Ryan asked. Brendon smiled and nodded. He walked over to me and grabbed my arm before I could even utter a word. He dragged me to my room in shock. I was suddenly tossed into a room, as Brendon ran in after me, gleefully. I looked around the room amazed. A large canopy bed stood by the window which had a large window with dark red curtains. I looked at the closet, curiously. I wandered over and immediately was immersed in a world I had only read about in stories. The closet was about two times the size of my bedroom in my home, and was complete with a seating area. To top it off, the closet was packed with women’s clothing. I gazed around in wonder. Brendon grinned as he bowed.
“So how does our princess enjoy her room?” He asked. I smiled and laughed, flopping down on the couch.
“Wow… That’s all I have to say. But you really didn’t need to do this.” I stated, looking over at him. He smirked.
“We know. But we haven’t had someone stay here in years so you have to understand our excitement” He said, sitting down next to me. He grinned happily as he leapt back up and ran towards the dresses, grinning.
“So what do you think of the dresses?” He asked. I got up and peered over the edge of the couch, propping my arms on the edge of it to give me some more support. I examined a few of them with my eyes quickly and grinned.
“They’re beautiful! Where’d you get them?” I asked. Brendon shrugged.
“Spencer was the one who got them. Well, I picked out the colour and styles I wanted, but Spencer is the one who went out to buy them.” Brendon explained. I stared up at the ceiling and nodded.
“So what’s wrong with him anyways?” I asked. Brendon shrugged.
“That’s his story to tell,” He said, standing up, “Anyways, I’ll leave you be for now. Goodnight Taya”
I smiled as I stood up and followed him into the main room. I watched him walk out.
“Night Brendon and thanks.” I said. He turned and smiled, then closed the door behind him silently. I sighed and flopped down on the bed, sighing. How had I ended up in this scenario? Oh yeah. I found out I was some sort of a freak. My face turned into a slight frown then turned back into a smile as I giggled softly. Even if I was a freak, I wasn’t about to pass up an adventure. I had waited all my life for something like this to happen and now that it was, no one was going to take it from me. I snuggled into the bed happily. Besides. This bed was one of the most comfortable ones I had ever laid in and there was no way I was going to let it go any time soon. I laughed at the thought of the boys trying to pull it out of my grasp as I whined and used my powers to hold onto it. John would probably be stomping around angrily as Spencer just sat down watching. Ryan and Brendon would probably be the only ones fighting back… other than John. I laughed a bit more. My eye caught the doors to the closet as I considered checking out the dresses. I turned away, trying to ignore it. Wincing, I looked back over then leapt out of bed and into the closet. I began looking at all the dresses intently. I felt like a little girl again. I had always loved dresses, despite how I looked in my everyday clothes.. Though I wasn’t sure if they knew that or guessed. Shrugging it off, I found the nightgowns. I looked at each one, looking down at my outfit as well. The vampires and… what ever Doctor Way and Frankie were. I took out a gentle white night gown that ran past my feet and trailed along the ground in the back. I slipped it on carefully and quietly climbed into the bed. Tonight I would rest unbothered by anything other than maybe the occasional bad dream.
The smell of freshly baked pancakes wafted into my room through the cracks around the door, crawling around me and engulfing me into their scent. My eyes opened drowsily as I sat up gently. Brendon stood their in front of me with his arms outstretched, holding a plate of breakfast. I looked at him, sleepily as I adjusted myself. He placed the tray on my bedside table smiling. He looked outside momentarily. I too looked. A beam of light shone through the window treatments. I rubbed my eyes.
“Is it morning already?” I asked. He nodded.
“Yep, it is. And actually, you slept in quite a bit. It’s about noon now, really. So, good afternoon.” He stated calmly. I laughed and nodded.
“Well, good afternoon to you too. Thank you, by the way.” I stated. He eyed me curiously
“For what” He asked.
“For being so kind to me and letting me stay here.” I answered. He chuckled slightly.
“Don’t worry about it. We needed to free you from their kind anyways.” He stated. I nodded.
“Well, still. Thanks” I said happily. He sighed, turning away, then turning back.
“Well, I brought you some breakfast. Welcome to our home, princess.” He said happily as he walked out. I watched him, curiously as he shut the door gently behind him. I looked over at the meal, still slightly drowsy from the day before. I woke up immediately when I saw what was prepared. It was a plate with a cinnamon bun on it with icing drizzled on the top. On the side there was a plate of bacon and a plate of eggs, along with a mocha and a glass of orange juice to top it all off. I rolled back over and giggled. I felt like a princess saved by her prince charming. I rolled back over, looking at the food as a thought crossed my mind. What if I was actually being a burden? What if they didn’t want me here and John was actually the only one expressing his opinion? I picked up the cinnamon bun and began nibbling on it. As soon as My tongue tasted the sweet pastry, I completely forgot about what I had been previously thinking about. Once I had finished eating both the cinnamon bun and a bit of the bacon and eggs (there was a lot ^_^”) I took one last sip of my orange juice and decided I was done. I picked up the tray and quietly walked out placing the tray in the kitchen and cleaning off the plates of all the food I hadn’t eaten. I grabbed a wash cloth that I assumed Brendon had left out and began washing the dishes. I would have washed Brendon’s as well, but I couldn’t because he had already washed them. There was a sudden cold hand on my shoulder. I leapt up, the water splashing slightly as I spun around. Ryan stood smiling gently, rubbing the back of his head.
“Sorry Taya. I didn’t know you were that easily scared.” He said calmly. I took a deep breath and turned back around.
“Easily scared? Who’s easily scared?” I asked, scrubbing the dish. Ryan leaned against the counter, his hands keeping his balance. He raised an eyebrow and smirked. I laughed slightly as I finished up with the last dish and placed it on the drying rack. He grinned baring his fangs.
“You are and don’t deny it” He stated. I shook my head at him, laughing.
“What? Do you think because you’re showing off your fangs to me I’ll get scared and run off? Ha! I’ll have you know that I’m not afraid of you. John and Pete, maybe, but not you and Brendon” I stated, smirking as I placed some dishes by him. He threw his head back in laughter. His laugh made me smile, as if he had been holding one back for so many years and now he was just laughing in sheer delight. He turned to me, his eyes changing to their vampiric hazel. I stared back unmoved as I grinned.
“How about now, hm? Are you repulsed yet?” He asked slyly, taking a step forward and stroking my cheek, “Or are you too frozen in fear to think?”
I grabbed his hand and took step closer to him until our faces were just inches apart from each other. My grin turned into a calm smile.
“Ryan, your eyes reflect calmness and gentleness. How could I be afraid of that?” I asked. He stared back, searching my eyes in wonder. He opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by a sudden clattering down the hall. We both tore away and walked into the hallway. Brendon burst open John’s door and stormed out, his head looking down. He didn’t say anything as he passed Ryan and me. We looked over at John’s door but it was already closed. We exchanged glances and walked back to the table. I sat there not saying a word as my feet kicked back and forth, keeping an imaginary rhythm in my mind. What had happened in the room? Why had Brendon, who before was so happy and cheerful, suddenly grown sullen and angry? As much as I thought about the possibilities as to why, I couldn’t find an answer. I laid my head on the table and sighed. This was getting frustrating. I sighed gently and looked up at Ryan who just sat there, staring at me. He cocked his head to one side, concerned, as if to ask me ‘you’re still thinking about this?’. I looked up at the ceiling which had been fixed and closed my eyes. Was Brendon my first one to try and save? I looked over at Ryan who just stared back, trying to comprehend what I might be thinking. I stood up and gave him one last look, then wandered over to the bedroom in which Brendon had gone into. I knocked on the door gently. There was no answer. I knocked a little harder. Still no answer. I began pounding on the door when suddenly it was flung open by an angry Brendon vampire. His eyes surveyed me in anger then quickly changed back to their normal brown as his entire body began to relax. He sighed, looking back over at me.
“What’s up?” He asked. I looked at him, slightly nervous.
“Um, not much. You?” I asked. He shook his head.
“Nothing. Come on in.” He stated, stepping out of the way. I took a step past him and began blindly walking in. He quickly grabbed my arm as he turned on the light. I was about to run into the coffee table, where a strange ornament with many spikes shot out of it on all sorts of angles. I let a deep sigh of relief out. He let my arm go gently and sat down on the chair, then beckoned me over to sit beside him. He smiled gently.
“So, Taya, how are you today?” He asked. I smiled back.
“I’m fine, actually, how about you?” I asked.
“I’m really good, actually. I had a great conversation with John and-” he began but was interrupted by me.
“So what was you conversation about?”
He stared back at me as an expression that resembled what one might look like when they say the phrase “Oh shit” crossed his face.
“Excuse me?” He asked, nervously. I looked forward.
“It’s okay. If you don’t want to tell me, then that’s okay too.” I said, looking over at his photos. All of the recent ones where of him and the guys, but there were a few old ones that were of him, a woman and a small girl. I looked back at him as he too gazed at the pictures. He took a deep breath and let it out as he pushed his hair back, making his action useless as his hair quickly fell back into his face. He looked back into my eyes, his brown eyes looking sadder.
“It was about my daughter… and you.” He stated, his brown eyes turning into pools of memories. I stared back, trying to read them and what had happened. Giving up I looked straight into his eyes.
“What happened to your daughter… when you were turned?” I asked. Brendon looked down, taking a sharp breath in.
“When I was turned… she was already dead.” He stated, wiping a stray tear from his eye. He looked up at me as if to ask for help. I quickly threw my arms around him.
“If you want you can tell me… but it’s really up to you.” I offered. He nodded, letting a deep breath of air out as he laughed slightly.
“She was a lot like you, you know. I think I found a sense of her being in you when… you came here…” He explained, then laughed a bit more. As I examined his tears, I realized they were blood. My white nightgown was now stained with red splotches, making me look like a murderer. He laughed a bit more than he had before and looked back up at the ceiling.
“Wow… I haven’t even started and I’m already a mess…” He said softly, “So Sophia, your story’s finally coming out from my own lips.”
