Chapter Three
I looked around at the other three vamps sitting around me watching me eat. I nervously took a bite of the meal, staring straight at Brendon, unsure of what to do right now. Brendon simply smiled as I stared at the food, shocked.
“Do you like it? Huh? Huh?” He asked. I nodded still surprised.
“It’s really good!” I said happily. Brendon smiled.
“Great! I-” He began but was interrupted by John walking through the house, slamming his bedroom door. He took a blood pack out of the fridge and began microwaving it, waiting for a bit before taking it back out. I watched him as he walked back. Brendon shook his head.
“You’d think that if he was on a rampage, he’d be a little more considerate.” Brendon said calmly. I looked over at Ryan nervously. He just smiled back.
“Don’t worry. He acts like this when ever anyone joins our clan. It’s his way of testing you. If you can stand his behaviour like this, then you should be able to be accepted by him. If not then he’s just being an ass.” Ryan explained. I nodded looking over at Spencer. He just stared at me, his eyes reflecting a sense of sorrow and hurting. I looked back down at my food and shoved in another mouthful, trying to ignore his look. I stared down at my feet awkwardly as I could feel his gaze boring into me. Ryan placed one hand on my shoulder as I heard a soft noise come out of his throat. I looked back up to see Spencer looking out the window now. I looked up at Ryan who simply smiled. I looked back down wiping my mouth and standing up. Brendon quickly leapt to his feet and took my plate, walking back to the kitchen. I stared at him as he walked back, surprised at how quickly he had gone and come back. Ryan looked down at me and smiled gently. I smiled back. He looked towards the hall way, then to Brendon.
“Hey Brendon, do you want to show Taya to her bedroom?” Ryan asked. Brendon smiled and nodded. He walked over to me and grabbed my arm before I could even utter a word. He dragged me to my room in shock. I was suddenly tossed into a room, as Brendon ran in after me, gleefully. I looked around the room amazed. A large canopy bed stood by the window which had a large window with dark red curtains. I looked at the closet, curiously. I wandered over and immediately was immersed in a world I had only read about in stories. The closet was about two times the size of my bedroom in my home, and was complete with a seating area. To top it off, the closet was packed with women’s clothing. I gazed around in wonder. Brendon grinned as he bowed.
“So how does our princess enjoy her room?” He asked. I smiled and laughed, flopping down on the couch.
“Wow… That’s all I have to say. But you really didn’t need to do this.” I stated, looking over at him. He smirked.
“We know. But we haven’t had someone stay here in years so you have to understand our excitement” He said, sitting down next to me. He grinned happily as he leapt back up and ran towards the dresses, grinning.
“So what do you think of the dresses?” He asked. I got up and peered over the edge of the couch, propping my arms on the edge of it to give me some more support. I examined a few of them with my eyes quickly and grinned.
“They’re beautiful! Where’d you get them?” I asked. Brendon shrugged.
“Spencer was the one who got them. Well, I picked out the colour and styles I wanted, but Spencer is the one who went out to buy them.” Brendon explained. I stared up at the ceiling and nodded.
“So what’s wrong with him anyways?” I asked. Brendon shrugged.
“That’s his story to tell,” He said, standing up, “Anyways, I’ll leave you be for now. Goodnight Taya”
I smiled as I stood up and followed him into the main room. I watched him walk out.
“Night Brendon and thanks.” I said. He turned and smiled, then closed the door behind him silently. I sighed and flopped down on the bed, sighing. How had I ended up in this scenario? Oh yeah. I found out I was some sort of a freak. My face turned into a slight frown then turned back into a smile as I giggled softly. Even if I was a freak, I wasn’t about to pass up an adventure. I had waited all my life for something like this to happen and now that it was, no one was going to take it from me. I snuggled into the bed happily. Besides. This bed was one of the most comfortable ones I had ever laid in and there was no way I was going to let it go any time soon. I laughed at the thought of the boys trying to pull it out of my grasp as I whined and used my powers to hold onto it. John would probably be stomping around angrily as Spencer just sat down watching. Ryan and Brendon would probably be the only ones fighting back… other than John. I laughed a bit more. My eye caught the doors to the closet as I considered checking out the dresses. I turned away, trying to ignore it. Wincing, I looked back over then leapt out of bed and into the closet. I began looking at all the dresses intently. I felt like a little girl again. I had always loved dresses, despite how I looked in my everyday clothes.. Though I wasn’t sure if they knew that or guessed. Shrugging it off, I found the nightgowns. I looked at each one, looking down at my outfit as well. The vampires and… what ever Doctor Way and Frankie were. I took out a gentle white night gown that ran past my feet and trailed along the ground in the back. I slipped it on carefully and quietly climbed into the bed. Tonight I would rest unbothered by anything other than maybe the occasional bad dream.
The smell of freshly baked pancakes wafted into my room through the cracks around the door, crawling around me and engulfing me into their scent. My eyes opened drowsily as I sat up gently. Brendon stood their in front of me with his arms outstretched, holding a plate of breakfast. I looked at him, sleepily as I adjusted myself. He placed the tray on my bedside table smiling. He looked outside momentarily. I too looked. A beam of light shone through the window treatments. I rubbed my eyes.
“Is it morning already?” I asked. He nodded.
“Yep, it is. And actually, you slept in quite a bit. It’s about noon now, really. So, good afternoon.” He stated calmly. I laughed and nodded.
“Well, good afternoon to you too. Thank you, by the way.” I stated. He eyed me curiously
“For what” He asked.
“For being so kind to me and letting me stay here.” I answered. He chuckled slightly.
“Don’t worry about it. We needed to free you from their kind anyways.” He stated. I nodded.
“Well, still. Thanks” I said happily. He sighed, turning away, then turning back.
“Well, I brought you some breakfast. Welcome to our home, princess.” He said happily as he walked out. I watched him, curiously as he shut the door gently behind him. I looked over at the meal, still slightly drowsy from the day before. I woke up immediately when I saw what was prepared. It was a plate with a cinnamon bun on it with icing drizzled on the top. On the side there was a plate of bacon and a plate of eggs, along with a mocha and a glass of orange juice to top it all off. I rolled back over and giggled. I felt like a princess saved by her prince charming. I rolled back over, looking at the food as a thought crossed my mind. What if I was actually being a burden? What if they didn’t want me here and John was actually the only one expressing his opinion? I picked up the cinnamon bun and began nibbling on it. As soon as My tongue tasted the sweet pastry, I completely forgot about what I had been previously thinking about. Once I had finished eating both the cinnamon bun and a bit of the bacon and eggs (there was a lot ^_^”) I took one last sip of my orange juice and decided I was done. I picked up the tray and quietly walked out placing the tray in the kitchen and cleaning off the plates of all the food I hadn’t eaten. I grabbed a wash cloth that I assumed Brendon had left out and began washing the dishes. I would have washed Brendon’s as well, but I couldn’t because he had already washed them. There was a sudden cold hand on my shoulder. I leapt up, the water splashing slightly as I spun around. Ryan stood smiling gently, rubbing the back of his head.
“Sorry Taya. I didn’t know you were that easily scared.” He said calmly. I took a deep breath and turned back around.
“Easily scared? Who’s easily scared?” I asked, scrubbing the dish. Ryan leaned against the counter, his hands keeping his balance. He raised an eyebrow and smirked. I laughed slightly as I finished up with the last dish and placed it on the drying rack. He grinned baring his fangs.
“You are and don’t deny it” He stated. I shook my head at him, laughing.
“What? Do you think because you’re showing off your fangs to me I’ll get scared and run off? Ha! I’ll have you know that I’m not afraid of you. John and Pete, maybe, but not you and Brendon” I stated, smirking as I placed some dishes by him. He threw his head back in laughter. His laugh made me smile, as if he had been holding one back for so many years and now he was just laughing in sheer delight. He turned to me, his eyes changing to their vampiric hazel. I stared back unmoved as I grinned.
“How about now, hm? Are you repulsed yet?” He asked slyly, taking a step forward and stroking my cheek, “Or are you too frozen in fear to think?”
I grabbed his hand and took step closer to him until our faces were just inches apart from each other. My grin turned into a calm smile.
“Ryan, your eyes reflect calmness and gentleness. How could I be afraid of that?” I asked. He stared back, searching my eyes in wonder. He opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by a sudden clattering down the hall. We both tore away and walked into the hallway. Brendon burst open John’s door and stormed out, his head looking down. He didn’t say anything as he passed Ryan and me. We looked over at John’s door but it was already closed. We exchanged glances and walked back to the table. I sat there not saying a word as my feet kicked back and forth, keeping an imaginary rhythm in my mind. What had happened in the room? Why had Brendon, who before was so happy and cheerful, suddenly grown sullen and angry? As much as I thought about the possibilities as to why, I couldn’t find an answer. I laid my head on the table and sighed. This was getting frustrating. I sighed gently and looked up at Ryan who just sat there, staring at me. He cocked his head to one side, concerned, as if to ask me ‘you’re still thinking about this?’. I looked up at the ceiling which had been fixed and closed my eyes. Was Brendon my first one to try and save? I looked over at Ryan who just stared back, trying to comprehend what I might be thinking. I stood up and gave him one last look, then wandered over to the bedroom in which Brendon had gone into. I knocked on the door gently. There was no answer. I knocked a little harder. Still no answer. I began pounding on the door when suddenly it was flung open by an angry Brendon vampire. His eyes surveyed me in anger then quickly changed back to their normal brown as his entire body began to relax. He sighed, looking back over at me.
“What’s up?” He asked. I looked at him, slightly nervous.
“Um, not much. You?” I asked. He shook his head.
“Nothing. Come on in.” He stated, stepping out of the way. I took a step past him and began blindly walking in. He quickly grabbed my arm as he turned on the light. I was about to run into the coffee table, where a strange ornament with many spikes shot out of it on all sorts of angles. I let a deep sigh of relief out. He let my arm go gently and sat down on the chair, then beckoned me over to sit beside him. He smiled gently.
“So, Taya, how are you today?” He asked. I smiled back.
“I’m fine, actually, how about you?” I asked.
“I’m really good, actually. I had a great conversation with John and-” he began but was interrupted by me.
“So what was you conversation about?”
He stared back at me as an expression that resembled what one might look like when they say the phrase “Oh shit” crossed his face.
“Excuse me?” He asked, nervously. I looked forward.
“It’s okay. If you don’t want to tell me, then that’s okay too.” I said, looking over at his photos. All of the recent ones where of him and the guys, but there were a few old ones that were of him, a woman and a small girl. I looked back at him as he too gazed at the pictures. He took a deep breath and let it out as he pushed his hair back, making his action useless as his hair quickly fell back into his face. He looked back into my eyes, his brown eyes looking sadder.
“It was about my daughter… and you.” He stated, his brown eyes turning into pools of memories. I stared back, trying to read them and what had happened. Giving up I looked straight into his eyes.
“What happened to your daughter… when you were turned?” I asked. Brendon looked down, taking a sharp breath in.
“When I was turned… she was already dead.” He stated, wiping a stray tear from his eye. He looked up at me as if to ask for help. I quickly threw my arms around him.
“If you want you can tell me… but it’s really up to you.” I offered. He nodded, letting a deep breath of air out as he laughed slightly.
“She was a lot like you, you know. I think I found a sense of her being in you when… you came here…” He explained, then laughed a bit more. As I examined his tears, I realized they were blood. My white nightgown was now stained with red splotches, making me look like a murderer. He laughed a bit more than he had before and looked back up at the ceiling.
“Wow… I haven’t even started and I’m already a mess…” He said softly, “So Sophia, your story’s finally coming out from my own lips.”
