Chapter Two :O

Chapter two

As I gritted my teeth in fear, I thought about everything that was happening so far. Everything I had done in my life. There wasn’t much. I had always lived with the thought of my mother despising me. My mind flickered back momentarily to that look she always gave me. It almost always brought tears to my eyes to see those eyes filled with disappointment staring back. Sometimes I wanted to scream that I was sorry for not being who she wanted me to be. But I had always held back my anger and sorrow. I guess that’s what consumed my heart and brought me to the previous night. How I wished my death was majestic like that instead of how it was now. I felt a hand grab me. I shuddered in fear. Then a thought occurred to me. If he wanted to kill me, I would want the look in my eyes to haunt him for ever. So I opened my eyes slowly, looking up at the figure. The curtains which had now been pulled back revealed the figure. But it wasn’t him who had grabbed me. That was Doctor Wentz. I stared up at him curiously. He just smiled gently and helped me back up.

“Are you okay?” He asked. I looked around the room. Doctor Way was also there, sitting in the shadows. His green eyes glistened even in the dark. I looked back into Doctor Wentz’s eyes, but as I did so, I felt my blood run cold. His eyes had changed. They reminded me of those of a cat’s. His pupils had turned into slits from the light of the moon and his normal brown eyes had lightened slightly, as flecks of crimson red shone through the brown. He closed his eyes slowly then opened them again.

“You’ll know why soon enough. Now, what did you do to him?” Pete asked pointing at the figure. The moon light now revealed all of the figure’s features. His face was twisted in anger and determination. A hungry look was in his eyes and his mouth was partially open, revealing a pair of razor sharp teeth where his eye-teeth should have been. Gerard’s hand tightened into a fist as he bit his lip, his duller, dog-like fangs drawing a bit of blood. I don’t know what he was holding back, but what ever it was I was sure it was hard for him to do that.

“I-I don’t know. He was attacking me so I shouted stop and then you grabbed me.” I explained. With him being a doctor, I figured he would never buy a story like that. Besides, who would believe the suicidal girl? How ever, Pete looked over at Gerard as they exchanged concerned looks. Pete turned back to me, running a hand through his hair trying to comprehend what I was saying.

“Can you do it again? Only say ‘Go’ this time?” He asked. I shrugged my shoulders.

“Um… I suppose. Uh… Go?” I asked. Nothing happened. Pete shook his head. Gerard took a step forward, dragging the curtain with him to make sure he didn’t step in the moonlight.

“The same way as you did before, Taylor” He ordered calmly. I nodded, then turned to the creature. I closed my eyes and held out my hand, palm facing forward and fingers pointing at the sky. The light headed feeling returned to me, then nothing.

“Go” I heard myself order. The next thing I knew, I was hit into the wall. Reality came crashing back to me as I felt something stab through me. I opened my eyes, gagging on the blood that was spilling from my mouth. I stared forward as I watched Gerard leap forward, his body twisting into that of a large wolf-like creature. He snarled as his jaws clamped around the creature’s body. I looked down at my stomach. I saw a pole that I assumed the creature picked up and stuck through me. I looked down at it, squeezing my eyes shut. Pete and Gerard were now fighting the creature together and wining. I gritted my teeth tightly and gripped the pole in my hands. I moaned slightly in pain as I pulled the object out of my body. I opened my eyes slightly, looking down at the blood smeared on the pole. I closed my eyes, trying to push back the nauseas feeling. I bit my lip and continued pulling as I began thinking happy thoughts. As soon as I got the pole all the way down, I felt my outfit becoming drenched in liquid. Looking down momentarily, I watched the river of red flowing from my stomach. I leaned against the wall, dying. I smiled slightly, wiping the blood that I had spat up earlier. I held a hand against my stomach, thinking about everything I hadn’t been able to do yet. A tear spilt down my cheek as I thought about everyone I would be leaving behind. I suddenly felt my body collide with the ground as a strong scent of iron entered my nostrils. Blood. My own blood. I smiled slightly.

“I wonder what mom made for dinner tonight?” I asked softly, letting both the scent of blood and the loss of it cause me to slip into unconsciousness.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back in the hospital bed. The first thought that reached my mind was that ghosts existed, and I was one, until I looked down at my stomach. It was bandaged up. On top of that, I was hooked up to a machine that was making an obnoxious beeping noise every time my heart would beat. I looked out the window, letting a rush of air escape my lungs. I lived. I had cheated death. I fell back further into my pillow, smiling. There was a sudden knock at the door. Looking up, I was shocked at whom I saw. It was Ryan. He smiled gently.

“Hey.” He stated, stepping forward. I sighed.

“I lived” I said happily. Ryan nodded, sitting down on the bed. He turned to face me, curiously.

“Do you feel safe here?” He asked. I looked at him curiously.

“What? Why? What’s going on Ryan?” I asked. He shook his head.

“I just want to know.” He said calmly. I looked down thinking. I had been attacked last night, but Pete and Gerard had saved me… But were they really on my side to protect me of for some other reason? I looked back up at Ryan.

“N-Not really.” I said softly. Ryan looked at the machine and nodded. He took away everything I was hooked up to and pulled everything that had been stuck into me back out. He lifted me up.

“If you don’t feel safe, then we should go, shouldn’t we? We have to escape from here though… And we have to be quick…” He stated, thinking. His eyes closed slightly. They suddenly burst back open as he ran at the window. Great. Glass. The window shattered as he landed on the ground, running forward with me in his arms. I gripped onto him, feeling the rush of the air around me. It felt cool, but it was relaxing. But the strange thing was that no one noticed us. I looked around. Every person I noticed disappeared in a second. How fast were we going?

“Hold it right there, Ryan!”

Apparently not fast enough. I tried to look back at Pete, but Ryan jostled me slightly.

“If you look, it will only increase your anxiety. We just have to make it to my place and we’ll be safe.” He explained. I nodded, clinging on tightly. I felt something grab my leg. I clung on to Ryan even tighter, squeezing my eyes shut and biting my lip. A strange noise emerged from Ryan’s throat as I felt him reach out and hit Pete away. Pete made a noise as well and continued to run. I felt Ryan jump into the air and opened my eyes. We were now on a tall building that I estimated to be about fourteen stories. He began running across the buildings, leaping from each one to the other. I watched the buildings around us pass by at a rapid pace. Suddenly Pete was next to us again, snarling. I stared straight into his eyes. They were even worse than last night. His face was twisted in anger and his fangs were showing.

“The girl belongs to us!” He snarled. Ryan snarled back.

“She belongs to no one but herself!” He shouted, pulling out a gun from his side and shooting him in the arm. I stared at Ryan shocked. Where did the gun come from? Ryan suddenly leapt down, crashing through the roof of a building. He sighed slightly and placed be down on the ground. I looked up at the ceiling. Pete looked at the hole. The two snarled at each other, then Pete left. Ryan sighed, shaking his head.

“So. Do you feel safe now?” He asked, grinning. I shrugged.

“Pete certainly scared the living crap out of me. Why can’t he come down here? Is there something worse in the shadows or something?” I asked. Ryan laughed, shaking his head.

“No, this is where my pack and I live. That’s more of a dog’s way of putting it, but I can’t think of any other way to describe it at the moment.” He said, smiling gently. I looked at him confused.

“So what are you?” I asked. Ryan looked back at me unsure of what to say. I shook my head, slightly irritated. Ryan sighed.

“Okay, okay. Pete and I are-” He began but was interrupted by someone entering the room. We both looked over quickly to see a man walk in, looking to be around Ryan’s age. His hair was also brown, but a lot darker than Ryan’s. A look of confusion crossed his eyes.

“When did you get a girl frie- WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO MY ROOF?” He snarled, lunging forward. He began moaning as he picked up the glass, whimpering as he looked up at the window. He looked back at Ryan angrily. He started stepping towards him as Ryan backed away nervously.

“You bastard… Do you realize how long… How much money I spent last time you leapt through the roof? WE HAVE A DOOR YOU FUCKING ASS!” the man roared. Ryan grinned nervously.

“Um… Pete was after me and her, Brendon” He stated, pointing at me. Brendon then looked over at me and smiled softly.

“Don’t worry. I don’t blame you.” He said calmly, then turned back to Ryan.

“What did you do to them? Did you provoke their clan?” He snarled. Ryan shook his head quickly.

“No! I just took Taylor out of the hospital because Pete was obviously going to try and use her for his own greed.” He stated. Brendon shot me a quick glance then looked back at Ryan.

“Is she a-” He started. Ryan quickly nodded. Brendon whistled loudly. I took a cautious step forward.

“Um… I’m not quite sure what you guys are talking about. What am I?” I asked curiously, stepping around the glass. The two exchanged nervous glances.

“Uh well you see you-” Brendon started, but was interrupted by another door opening. Suddenly two other men burst out from a long hallway. One man had shaggy, medium length, brown hair and a bit of stubble that was spotted around his jaw line up to his cheek bones giving him a tired look. His brown eyes were darker than the others, but none the less, he still had a lively look about him. The other man had short, brown hair that was sort of like Ryan’s, but different at the same time. His blue eyes looked wired, almost animal like. Yet he seemed to be gentle and kind. They both looked at me curiously.

“Who’s the chick?” The first one I had described asked. Ryan took a step forward.

“This is Taylor. She needs to stay here for a while. Taylor, this is John and the other one is Spencer.” Ryan introduced. Both waved once their name was called out. They both walked towards Ryan, Brendon and I. I looked around at everyone.

“So. What are you and what am I exactly?” I asked, taking a step away. The four of them exchanged glances, then looked back at me.

“Want me to eat her?” John asked. Ryan smacked him on the head violently. John cringed and rubbed his head, laughing slightly.

“I was just kidding, Ryan.” He said calmly. Spencer just stared at me silently, then looked at the others. They seemed to be having a silent conversation with just their eyes. I sat down on a spot that hadn’t been covered in shattered glass yet and watched them. Suddenly Ryan lunged out at John, making a loud, cat-like growl. Brendon and Spencer quickly restrained him. John just smirked and watched Ryan try and get away from the other two. Ryan snarled at him. John sighed and looked over at me, and grinned. He suddenly walked over, picking me up. They didn’t say anything as this was happening which lead to even more confusion. The most confusing part was when John kissed me on the lips. My eyes widened as I pushed away angrily. Ryan roared and pushed the other two away, grabbing me. John began laughing. I looked around, confused. What was going on. Finally Ryan spoke.

“John, you asshole.” He snarled, pushing me behind him. John just laughed.

“Hey, I just wanted a little fun. You can’t get mad at me for that.” He stated, shrugging. Ryan snarled yet again. Suddenly he was at John’s throat.

“Watch me” He spat. John’s normally smiling face turned into one of anger and disappointment. He grabbed Ryan’s hand flipped him onto the shattered glass. I watched as it stabbed into his back, and blood being thrown from his mouth. I ran over and tried to help Ryan, but John grabbed me and slung me over his shoulder. I clawed at his back trying to get to Ryan. Suddenly I kicked off, escaping. I ran to Ryan’s side, but he was already picking some out of his back. He looked at me sadly. I simply pulled the glass out of his back, watching him cringe as I did so. Suddenly John was grabbing my wrist. I looked at him, nervously. He sighed and grinned, baring his fangs. I looked at him, my eyes narrowing. I pulled away from his grasp, holding my arms out in front of Ryan defensively as I stood up. John laughed.

“What are you going to do? Fight me? I’d like to see you try.” He stated. I glared at him, my mind spinning again. This time I felt my body change a bit as I aimed my hand at him.

“Bring it on, dick.” I snarled, “Burn the enemy. Scorch his body”

A spiral of fire burst from my palm, growing larger as it mixed with the oxygen. It wrapped it’s self around his body like a serpent, turning into a large dome of burning flames. John’s laughter was heard within the fire. Ryan suddenly stood up, placing a hand on my shoulder.

“That’s enough.” He said softly. I blinked suddenly as the fire died. John brushed of the burnt pieces of cloth that remained on his body and adjusted the remaining fabric (no he wasn’t naked). He shook his hair, shaking out all of the cinders. He looked back up at me, smiling.

“Congrats. You’re a Talking.” He said calmly. I looked at him strangely.

“I’m a what?” I asked. Ryan let go of my shoulder and walked over to John with the others.

“A Talking. It’s a special creature that is human, yet not at the same time. You can cast spells and things like that just by speaking.” Ryan explained. I looked at him strangely.

“Um… okay… I have no idea what your talking about, really. Why would that be happening now instead of another time? Why hasn’t this happened before?” I asked. Brendon stepped up, shaking his head.

“We don’t know. But we feel it’s something to do with turning 16. But if we are correct and you are a true Talking, then we have to keep you from the others who might be pursuing you.” He explained. I took a step forward towards them, still confused.

“Pursuing me? Why would someone be coming after me?” I asked. John sighed.

“Because Talking’s hold ultimate power and can do practically anything. It is said that those who possess a Talking within their clan will hold ultimate power and can eliminate all other clans.” He explained. I looked over at Ryan.

“So was that the only reason you saved me? So that you could eliminate the other clans?” I asked. Ryan shook his head.

“Our clan isn’t like them. Though we are what some may call ‘vampires’, we don’t go around drinking innocent bystander’s blood like what Pete’s clan might do. We drink donated blood from hospitals so that we can survive, so yes, we aren’t vegetarians, really. But it’s better than taking a life.” Ryan explained. I nodded cautiously. Ryan smiled, as an attempt to calm me down. Brendon slumped down onto the couch, relaxing slightly.

“Taylor, do you know what a vampire is?” He asked. I nodded.

“I’ve read about them in books.” I said looking over at him. He adjusted his green ramones T-shirt and relaxed further, staring at the ceiling, through the hole. He grinned baring his fangs. The sight of them made me tense up, but Ryan quickly put a hand around me which relaxed me. Brendon looked over at me, his brown eyes changing from their normal brown to a darker brown with red streaks cutting through the red. He grinned menacingly.

“Watch out, I’m gonna eat you!” He wailed, then laughed, “Yeah, this is partially our true form. There’s a few more grotesque features that for some reason can be used to seduce humans, but it doesn’t seem to work on you,” He stood up and began stepping towards me, “Which only furthers our suspicions of you being a Talking.”

I looked over at Ryan. He sighed and closed his eyes, gritting his teeth together. His fangs were now more noticeable than before and when he opened his eyes, they had changed to a sharp hazel with red splotches. His look some how looked softer than the others. He looked over at John and Spencer who had also changed. Spencer’s eyes had gone darker. They were almost pure black, but a little red shone through. I don’t know why, but Spencer’s eyes almost made my heart feel as if it were dying. I quickly switched my focus to John. Rather than feeling heartbroken, or calmer, with his eyes, I felt fearful. John’s eyes had turned pure red, and his cat-like slit was about the thickness of a piece of regular paper. The pattern that was in his eyes was simply more shades of red that seemed to pierce through your body, causing any feelings of calamity to vanish. He grinned as he took a step forward.

“This is our partial true form as Brendon stated. We are vampires. Our eyes show the main feeling we feel. They can never change. It has to do with the last thought we had thought before we were turned. Each set of eyes holds that and bears that thought for the rest of our damned lives. This is who we are. Can you accept that Talking? Can you accept us as your equal?” He asked. I looked over at Spencer, then to Brendon. I looked up at Ryan and then back to John, closing my eyes gently. I considered that thought for a moment. Was I able to accept them for who they are? Or was I going to run back home and hide away from the truth. I opened my eyes slowly and nodded.

“If I didn’t accept you, I wouldn’t be accepting the truth, now would I?” I asked calmly, looking at the ground. John looked over at Ryan and smirked. He looked back down at me and tilted my face up by placing a finger under my chin. He stared back into my eyes with his furious eyes that seemed to be smiling. I stared back with my oceanic eyes firmly. I wasn’t going to let him get to me with just the colour of his eyes. He smirked again, laughing slightly. His eyes changed back to their regular colour.

“Okay. I see now. Ryan, she can stay here.” He stated, turning away and walking off. I heard a door being shut further away. Brendon sighed as he stood up, looking at the pieces of glass on the floor. He moaned, then turned to glare at Ryan yet again.

“I hope you realize that I wont be the one cleaning this up.” he snarled, turning away. He turned back to me and smiled, “So what do you want for dinner tonight?” He asked me, grabbing my hands excitedly. I stared at him curiously.

“Um… what?” I asked. His smile grew even wider as he leapt up and down.

“You eat, right? So come on! What do you want for dinner?” He asked, pulling me towards the kitchen. He tore open the fridge, rummaging through the food and blood bags. He tore open his recipe book and began flipping through all of the pages, hesitating every now and then, then quickly flipping to another one. He looked over at me, smiling sweetly.

“We hardly ever get girls in here, so I try to treat them as kindly as possible.” He explained, then pointed to a picture, “How about grilled lemon herb salmon with potatoes and roasted carrots?” He asked. I smiled and nodded.

“Sure.” I said happily. There was a sudden shattering in the next room an a low noise. I looked over at Brendon who was now wearing a woman’s apron (clearly. If he found it in the men’s section, I’d be worried o.0) who was just sighing and pushing back some hair from his forehead.

“What was that?” I asked. He smiled reassuringly.

“Don’t worry. That’s just John. He’s angry a lot of the time. But I’m sure it’s nothing to do with you. Now come on! Lets bake, okay?” He asked. I looked over then back at Brendon and nodded, smiling. But what was really going on in my head was one question.

“what’s going on here?” asked myself, “And do all of these so called super beings truly need saving?”
